I agree. The real issue is protecting the league's image. And the fact that he was frequenting a nightclub full of college-age girls when he already had a rape allegation hanging over his head was incredibly poor judgment.

Absolutely - if criminally charged. However, it is likely that all this will just go away with civil litigation and nothing comes of it from the league.
Even in that case, I think that a racial element in the decision can pretty much be ruled out - basically because of examples already given.
Interestingly, an official is holding a press conference this afternoon to announce whether Roethlesberger will indeed be charged with a sex assault in regard to the nightclub incident.
So, we shall see what develops.

Did you see where the Georgia police officer who first spoke to the victim has resigned? Pretty disgusting behavior all the way around here, from Big Ben to his bodyguards to the cops who didn't take her seriously and so didn't secure the scene, until it had been cleaned.

It was pretty damning when the DA kept referring to the woman as "the victim" despite making the decision not to pursue the case. It seems pretty clear he believed Roethlisberger was guilty.

I believe he got six games, at least in part, for that reason. Most people thought he would get four at the most.
