  Amnesian, I agree 100% with your position that ALL ELDERS WHO KNOW IT IS A RACKET AND A LIE ARE CULPABLE IF THEY DO NOT QUIT!

  I didn't have time to read all the follow up threads and if I'm repetitive just ignore me please. But I think pubs who know its a lie and stay are also culpable but not nearly as much as elders. An elder who knows it's a lie can do a lot of good by leaving. And they do almost no good by staying. They just perpetuate the organization's teaching that they are appointed by holy spirit.

  In fact, the "nice" elders are dangerous too. Because then you get doubting dubs to look at the "hard" ones and make excuses for them and point to the good ones and say, "See this is what the Bible (WTS really) teaches." When in reality, it is the other way around.

  Anyways, I haven't followed all of the debating and arguing because I just don't have the time. I always enjoyed most of Amazing's threads but you sure did point out some things I had missed. In fact, right about now I'm thinking my own ex-jw husband displays many of those same qualities you mentioned about many ex-jw men.

  It was hard being married to a man in the borg. But it's also hard being married to an ex-witness man too. It's so convenient for them to retain the beliefs that propped them up in the first place.

  Don't be surprised to find others like amazing here. Men with WT mindsets that expect,no make that demand ,one behave in the nicey nice,wear your pearls ,whilst speaking in soft-lady like tones you were trained at. It's that power and control thang that feeds their obese egos they drag around with them.

  Also some women who still carry over the ladylike civility a la WTS. You'll know them by their posts. They bought into that definition of 'the good woman' but forgot to return that old used up costume to the store lol. Real assertive competant outspoken women scare them,because they havent realized the status quo changed long ago. Pollyana is dead and buried. Civil=little ladylike kow-towing here.Tina

  WOW! How much time did that post take you? Sorry I have to admit I didn't take the time to read the whole thing but after 3 pages I started getting Deja Vu. I think you made a great point.....but I don't agree with it. Sorry. I don't agree that those who stay in are causing any harm or responsible for the actions of the whole body of elders. No more than a US spy working in Pakistan as a government agent would be responsible for the actions of the Pakistani Government.

  Also, That much effort put into just proving your side of an arguement seems a little excessive but that's just my opinion. Please take that only as friendly free advice. You know what they say about free advice...........You get what you pay for.

  Yeah, it is almost as bad as seven longish posts making promises, allegations and chock full of inflammatory statements as well as healthy doses of self-pity. Perhaps there is an epidemic of excessiveness going around.

  funny I don't remember tyydyy posting anything like that...course he does spend a lot of time on the computer...but I thought he was just looking at porn...go figure..

  sssoooo it's wrong to be a lady now? Women have to be in your face using harsh hostile vulger language to be "liberated"? Guess we have different definations of what consititutes a real woman.

  Lets talk about Amazing.

  IMO, this is a very gifted man who has a streak of vanity. It came through in his posts, at one time I recall him saying that women found him attractive. He was also roundly bollocked on H20 for promoting a book that he an interest in. He was also unreliable in keeping his promise to email me re some possible UK connections.

  I skimmed Amazings posts, mainly so as to get to the good parts. There were a lot of good parts too. I for one will miss him.

  Amazing needs to be admired, that particular part of his personality was always very evident. But that is a common male trait, one that many of us fella's have to do battle with.

  You see, I accept all these weaknesses in others quite happily, so for me, Amazing's needs never served to undermine his perceptions. If he had tried to manipulate others via emotional blackmail - my biggest pet hate - I would have given him hell every time he posted.

  Welllllll, I'd hate to be *grouped* with those dastardly civil women who said "thank you" to a person starting a good discussion - no matter WHAT that person's agenda was......

  But, thank you, Amn...., for continuing this discussion. I couldn't keep up with the first (out of town), but I agree to within limits - elders who KNOW that the WTBTS in not God's Only Channel for Mankind and who continue as elders have a higher culpability than the average publisher.

  But I still believe that others have culpability - aka blame - also. Elders wives who support, relish, & sometimes abuse their position as the fine, humble, helpmate of their hard-working, long suffering elder husband. Mothers of elders go close in hand btw. Pioneers come in close because they so damnably, and relentlessly, encourage others to "join" them in their spiritual happiness. Many of these people have doubts - but what are they always encouraged to do? "Reach out and do more!" A cure to all doubts.

  Elders should know better.....but we all should have. Elders know more - theorectically correct. Some are just good (or bad) ol' boys who do what their told. Some are obedient....but just plain ignorant and/or stupid. Some are under the finger of their wives - no matter what people may say.

  Yeah, but *some* men seem to have a heavier dose of that trait. And with a name like "Amazing", ya just gotta figure......

  But that doesn't make them - or those women - any less intelligent, or unworthy to read. I liked the majority of Amazing's posts. Even those I didn't agree totally with, I usually learned something along the way....even if nothing more than to be able to articulate my own opinions.

  Man.....I agree with Six, Englishman, & JanH. And I'm a woman.....will wonders never cease? Oh! I believe ANY person, even a woman, can be civil - yet outspoken. It's called manners.
