My daughter asked me almost the same question...after giving my reason, got almost the same response..."not much fun in that"...

It's not about fun, although a lot of posters have fun. It's about being a jw, ex or otherwise. The wt life has, does have. such a negitive impact on folks here I am, a guy 30yrs gone, reading, posting to the board. Why? Because, people on here understand me as a person, better than my own daughter.

Same reason soldiers have reunions, old Joe truly understands how Bill feels about Lou being blown apart ten feet away in another foxhole. They lived the Battle of the Bulge, Market Garden, Desert Strom. That common thread that binds, We live/lived it. Do they have fun. Do we have fun, sure? Along with all the other issues. That's life, simple.

It's like being a concentration camp survivor. Who else has had this sort of experience?

My son who is grown-up (more or less) asked me the same thing. He quit going to meetings when he was 14 so he's old enough to remember what went on and has many criticisms of his own. Still he can't understand why people would do this. I tried to explain to him, but he finally told me, "I guess I just never felt as strongly about it as you did." I think that's probably true. And I'm kinda glad I was a "failure" as a parent to bring him up in the mental regulating etc, etc.

I guess consensus is that nobody else understands but those who've been there.

    Amazing how important that is.

You tell this stuff to civilians and they look at you like you didn't fasten your brain down before you screwed your skull cap on.

    I like:

    Undercover:

    LOL....
Just tell her it's a geography thing. You had to be there...

    And Quentin:

Hell is what we went thru as JW's and Hell is what we went thru to get out. I lost my family & marriage, my JW mom over the blood issue, Terry went to prison over the Draft, I almost did. Every poster here is here for a reason -- our past. Just like most of us have no idea what it's like to be hunted and shot at or shoot other humans -- the war vets and the general public have no idea -- what a cult can do.

We understand. So, we can and do help others that come here in a panic.

Rabbit: Simple and well said. War is Hell, whoever said that, being a jw is hell, so we have fun and then HELP each other best we can.

She replied: "That doesn't sound like much fun!"

Nope, it isn't. And this is a place where we can all share and understand our very unpleasant experience of being a JW because we can understand each other. And it is soo good that you dont have to come to this board because it means you are not affected.

    We are.

Stop spoon feeding your daughter. Tell her to check it out herself - she seems curious.

Tell her the truth - we talk about things that JWs are too afraid to talk about at the KH (which is practically everything).
