I really liked it too. I was 10 years old when it came out.

If you like that film possible-san, maybe you would like Dances With Wolves too.

And, if you can locate a copy, Son of the Morning Star.

Rockin movie by Michael Mann (best action movie director), score is truly great, scenes exhilerating, characters well rounded, and DDL is THE MAN!

In my mind, the movie plot (not Cooper's novel) does not necessarily label anyone as the "bad guy" but acknowledges many shades of grey... with waring nations the good guy and bad guy don't really exist. The French-Indian War had many interesting and complicated facets that surpase simplistic portrayals.

And no way would I even treat Dances with Wolves in the same way, that movie was trite, embarrasing, extremely derivitave plot, just lame in every way. Costner is the dirt beneath Day-Lewis's feet. The two movies simply do not compare.

Movie trivia that's not very interesting...

Chingachook was played by my adopted daughters uncle, Russell Means.

He's an abusive jerk. When beating up his wife, her father tried to save her and he nearly killed both of them. He only beat the case on a technicallity and saw no time in prison. He's Ogallala Sioux and this happened on Navajo Land so he claimed imunity and won his case.

    Thanks.
If I have an opportunity, I'd like to watch those movies.

Well, probably the reasons I love that movie are not only the scenes of that movie.
When I watch that movie, I imagine various things in my mind simultaneously.

Long ago, in Japan, there was a person who fought with the enemy by only him/alone.
    His name is "Benkei."

Moreover, there was a samurai who displayed the character (kanji) of "love" on his head, and fought with a enemy.
    His name is "Kanetsugu Naoe."

Probably, there are such strong men, also in the Bible.

What I loved about this movie was that each scene was so beautiful. I couldn't think of any part of that movie that was not beautiful in some form.

When she drops off the cliff I always think Magua is confused about why she would do that.

I got this impression too, Lady Lee.

I love this movie, I saw it in theater at the time, and own it now. It's one of my all time favorites. I think the best scene is when she chooses to jump off the cliff. You can clearly see, that it's unexpected respect that Magua is experiencing. He would have done the same. He is surprised to see that strength in the young white girl. Anyone who sees it otherwise, does not see.
