Why are so many ex jw's liberals?

What FF said. I think that really moving on beyond JWism might mean being more tolerant of a diversty of views.
When I left JW's I returned to the poliltical positon I had held when I was twenty: leftist democratic. The last presidential candidate I voted for before becoming a dub was McGovern. The first one I voted for when I got out was Dukakis. Since then my views have become a shade of grey. On a number of issues I'm liberal: gay rights, legalized marijuana, a few others. On the basis of Constitutional federalism, I would prefer to see these issues resolved in the state legislatures, rather than at the congressional level or in the courts.
I also think this country needs a healthy dose of fiscal responisbility. At the moment neither party follows a program that I can get behind. I firmly believe that we should leave behind foreign adventurism and reduce our overseas military commitments.
Many comments I see here or other places (from people occupying both sides - or claiming to) seem to me to be on the same intellectual level as comments in the Watchtower about apostates or "false religion."

Liberals are among the most intolerant of people I know.

I always amazed how people who post on JWN make a subjective conclusion about the beliefs of people who post here.
I'm amazed by people who voice an unfounded assumption that a conclusion is subjective.

Again, are we talking moral or political liberalism?
I was always morally liberal by natural inclination, I was just repressed by a religiously restrictive religion my parents chose for me.
I have tended to vote for Democrats lately because I can't stand the Moral Majority and that's mainly what the Replublicans have been offering up for candicates for a while. I wasn't too put off by McCain until he picked Mrs. "I'm a Beauty Contestant for Jesus" Palin for a running mate.
What's the difference between letting the JWs tell me what to do in my private life through through congregational slavery and letting the Evangelical influenced Wreligious Wrong do it for me through their attempts at legislation of morality?
Yeah, Obama/Biden are overly idealistic dumbasses sometimes, but at least the liberal Dems aren't peeking into my bedroom window and telling me I have to pray to get a public education.

Note: I do not label myself a "liberal" as the term has been abused to the point of being subverted--it no longer accurately reflects its etymology.
Liberals are among the most intolerant of people I know.
In what regard? Anecdotes would be great.

You have objective statistical data about the political affiliations and/or leanings of the users of this site? Please share.

Why do some see only in black and white and seek to impose their labels on others?

There are many ex-jws who lean to the right politically, as well, and many who don't give a shit either way. You could just as easily have asked the same about them. Your question seems to imply that leaving the jws should intrinsically lead a person to one train of thought.

Why are so many ex jw's liberals?
Are they?
Liberals are among the most intolerant of people I know.
So you don't actually "know" many Liberals then, eh?

Perhaps a better question would be: why are so many exJWs conservatives?
But, I think that if a survey were conducted, the political affiliations would fall along the lines of the general population.
