I am mostly a lurker here, but I thought I'd join in this discussion.

Mother started studying in 1983 in FL, stopped for a while after we moved to NYC, then resumed studying (and including me this time) in 1987. Stopped again in 1993 and then resumed in 1994. She was baptized in 1995 and is still in, I was baptized one year later (1996) at the age of 17 and stayed with the group until 2009, leaving shortly after my 30th birthday, but I had pretty much stopped preaching by 2008.

Started studying in 1981...baptized and married onto the "truth" at age 17 in 1982...divorced and df'd in 1989, so in for 8 years.

Time to see my therapist again, will call first thing Monday morning. I think we may have to start all over again.

Parents started studying when I was a baby. All through my childhood I knew something wasn't right for me... even at 6 or 7 years old I wanted nothing to do with the KH and JWs (used to make up excuses and fake being sick to get out of going to the KH), but out of some sense of loyalty to my parents I stuck with it. I was baptized in 1987 - not because I wanted to be, but because it was expected of me. When I hit 18ish and set out on my own, I kept attending the KH, but irregularly... submitting fake monthly reports to stay off the inactive list etc etc. By 1993 I wasn't attending at all anymore, but putting up a facade for the family's sake. I fully 100% stopped going to a KH in 2002. I haven't been back to a KH in years... no wait... I did go back once (a couple of years ago) at my parent's request when I was visiting them... my parents made all sorts of excuses to the cong why I wasn't wearing a suit (I went in jeans and a t-shirt), and why I was sporting a goatee pretending the whole time that all was normal and I was just attending in a more liberal cong. elsewhere.

Oh, I'm new here by the way I'll introduce myself later.

It's interesting to see when everybody left and how long you were in. And any comments on trends you see here would be helpful as well - anything you might notice

I'm sorry i didn't say how many years a witness up until 96. I think i was baptised in 71 or 72 at the age of either 12,13 or 14 and i was raised as a witness from the age of 2
