    Welcome to JWN, joeblow!

Was I always able to tune it out? No.

It takes years to get rid of it all. I'm wondering if it is possible to completely remove all of it. I'm still a work in progress and I didn't go through half what most on here went through. I moved away too (not as far as you...but far enough) but you're still in its grasp when you have family who are in. It's a tough life when you're not a JW but some of your family is.

I was baptized when I was 17, not because I wanted to be, but because it was expected of me.

Bingo. I think that applies to a lot here. I too was 'Baptised' at 15...bullied/expected/emotionally blackmailed etc, not MY choice. 'Dubism' is about pleasing others and not ourselves! Welcome

But whatever you do, don't make the mistake of turning your back on Scripture like the ex-JW atheists and God-haters on this site have done; they are just Satan's minions and offer very little in the long run. The biggest mistake you can do is pretend that the Bible is not the word of God, and thereby do your own thing as you see fit. It's understandable that the JWs have poisoned you to the truth as represented in the Bible, but that is their version, their error, and that's based on their NWT Bible, which is no real Bible at all. If you have been in for very long, you probably have been brainwashed to believe that Christendom is the work of Satan. It's not. You probably think the Trinity is the work of the devil. It's not. You have just been mislead to believe that. Read this if you think I'm wrong. http://144000.110mb.com/trinity/index.html#trinity-home

Don't turn your back on Him and deny Him. Do not be anti-Christ. Don't swing from one ridiculous extreme to another more ridiculous extreme. From the Almighty's perspective you are better off in the cult and believing in Him than denying Him. I don't need to tell you the risks involved. Plenty of good protestants and catholics out there. Some of them are preaching on the radio.

Leaving is a journey...... some of us just simply walk out the KH and are done, others fade, some of us fade very very very slowly ...... we all 'sift' through our beliefs trying to discern what exactly is authentic of ourselves versus just a drilled WTS interpretation. We begin to discern the differences between belief and familiarity of tradition.
