Moses brought 10 plagues upon Egypt to change Pharoah's mind about letting Jehovah's people go.

The 5th plague is to destroy only the Egyptian livestock:

6 And the next day the Lord did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.

A few days later the 7th plague is described:

21 But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field. 22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on men and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.”

The Fifth plague either killed ALL THE LIVESTOCK or it didn't!

    What gives?

People could say that the seventh plague dealt with non-Egyptians. So God did one plague to kill the Egyptian livestock, then another one to clean up the livestock of others who were around? I don't know... doesn't make much sense.

It think a re-shuffle is called for. If the plagues are reshuffled we might come up with a sequence that make sense.

Or just tear this embarrassing page out of the Bible and add it to the big pile of dis-guarded Bible pages that has outgrown what is left.

Good idea. Genesis is shit. Now Exodus too? I say just throw the entire book of myth away and write a new one.

A lot of the reshuffle of information in the Bible comes from the fact that it had at least a couple of different versions of all the stories, which were originally all oral, compiled without terrific editing.

The result is a lot of double dribbling, such as in this account and in the Genesis creation account, were things are duplicated out of order.

That's all...considering the state of non technology at the time, it's not a bad re telling of Jewish folklore and myth, but hardly flawless.

The largest and most influential christian body in America consists of inerrantist fundamentalist evangelicals.

Hard to believe that all of us as Jehovah's Witnesses were essentially in that same leaky boat!

What blows my mind the worst is that there have been thousands of years of opportunity to get all the bugs out of scripture (believe me, they have tried!) and you still end up with swiss cheese!

I would assume that those who "ignored the word of the Lord" is referring to the Egyptians and that it was their livestock left in the field. Sooooo......it's the same as the fifth plague, oh ye of little faith.

I guess the author(s) of the Ten Plagues ran out of plot and had to recycle ideas.

At least Moses didn't have an evil twin like Jehovah did.
