Years ago I remember reading something published by the Watchtower about men not being appointed as overseers if they had a vasectomy I have searched the CD library but cannot find the information does anyone remember where I might find that information?

Sorry, I cannot help with info, though I have a vague memory of the same thing.

Your thread has reminded me of a sister whose husband had the snip, she was trying not to talk about it much, but when people asked how he was ,his young son loudly piped up:

"My dad's balls have gone black!"

I notice the WTS references a lot...

(Deuteronomy 23:1) 23 “No man castrated by crushing the testicles or having his male member cut off may come into the congregation of Jehovah.

However they are equally quick to bring up the lack of being under the Mosaic Law.

FWIW, this topic was treated like R-rated movies in my area. Folks DID IT, but didn't advertise it. IMHO, there are plenty of elders who've had this procedure who are watching R-rated movies at this very moment. These articles are written to make everyone think the organization is very holy and pure. Meanwhile, back in the 'real world', people do what they need to do to survive.

Going by memory so don't quote me, but I vaguely remember that this kinda flip flopped a bit. One time it was pretty much a no-no, then it became a 'conscience matter' then it became not so much forbidden but if one did it and it became widely known then he "may" not qualify for appointment. I don't have any WT reference material handy so I can't confirm my memory.

Like LWT said, people did it and kept their mouth shut and no one was the wiser. I knew a guy who did it, didn't advertise it and was appointed MS shortly after.

I remember it as a QFR sometime in the 90's. Their idiotic reasoning became one more brick in my wall against the WTBS

I remember a couple of Witnesses who kept this on the QT because they thought it would keep them from becoming elders. I also knew a sister who wouldn't get a tubal ligation because she felt it was "mutilation".

When she found out many sisters had had one for years, she just about freaked. One sad case I know was of a sister who refused a hysterectomy when she was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer because she thought it was mutilation and would displease Jehovah.

She was told that we're not under the LAW, but decided her conscience wouldn't allow it "just in case". She had other treatment and is still alive, but not doing well.

Personally, I think she was just afraid of "losing her womanhood" as she put it and this was a convenient non-reasoning.

I was raised a JW and honestly didn't know this was a no-no until I was well into my 20s. I was talking to a friend and said "well I could just get a vasectomy." She got really quiet and was like, "you can't do that." I'm like "what? why not?" Her: "You're mutilating yourself, there are articles about it." It just floored me at the time. We could use condoms but not get a vasectomy? What's the difference? The intent is to have sex without it resulting in pregnancy in both cases. Where I'm from I guess it's just not something that gets covered.
