And how exactly do you legislate that? It's at the discretion of the law enforcement officer, even one who may not be trained in immigration.

How is this different from any other law, Keyzer? When out on their beat, LEOs have to use discretion and judgement independently in most of what they do.

There is a lot more gray area involved, for one thing. There is a lot more personal judgment required on the part of the LEO when suspecting an immigrant is here illegally, versus pulling someone over for a traffic violation.

    Talk about Broadbrushing!!!!

You'd think think this group coming out of the JW cult would be better than that.

    I guess not.......

You would have to be retarded to think that all the people out there protesting are illegal.

The people protesting are smart enough to recognize the resurgence of the 21st century version of Jim Crow when they see it.

That's a miscategorization of a legitimate concern over a very real, very serious problem.

Here, I'll distill the gist of your argument:

First, put your fingers in your ears.

Then, scream at the top of your voice: RACIST RACIST RACIST RACIST RACIST RACIST!

I wish all these illegals could be deported back to Mexico.

They aren't people looking to better themselves, just criminals bringing disease, death, destruction, and dilution to right wing voter strength.

I have no appreciation for them (enter any shit job the great american whiners imagine themselves above doing here) and they should all just go home.

I just don't knwo what's happening to "MY AMERICA!!!!!"

Some say the law was carefully drafted to withstand legal scrutiny. . .

    . . .

The law requires police to check with federal authorities on a person's immigration status, if officers have stopped that person for some legitimate reason and come to suspect that he or she might be in the U.S. illegally. The heart of the law is this provision: "For any lawful contact made by a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency…where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person…"

Critics have focused on the term "reasonable suspicion" to suggest that the law would give police the power to pick anyone out of a crowd for any reason and force them to prove they are in the U.S. legally. Some foresee mass civil rights violations targeting Hispanics.

What fewer people have noticed is the phrase "lawful contact," which defines what must be going on before police even think about checking immigration status. "That means the officer is already engaged in some detention of an individual because he's violated some other law," says Kris Kobach, a University of Missouri Kansas City Law School professor who helped draft the measure. "The most likely context where this law would come into play is a traffic stop."

As far as "reasonable suspicion" is concerned, there is a great deal of case law dealing with the idea, but in immigration matters, it means a combination of circumstances that, taken together, cause the officer to suspect lawbreaking. It's not race -- Arizona's new law specifically says race and ethnicity cannot be the sole factors in determining a reasonable suspicion.

Apparently, either you don't read very well, or you ignore my prior comments.

And there it is. This law does not grant police power to go around and pull people over because of their ethnicity. That would be huge in Arizona! 1 in 3 people there are Hispanic.

Of course, this will be ignored by the wild-eyed pot bangers looking to make noise over what a racist country this supposedly is. You can't give up that meme! It works! Divide the people, and sell yourself as the only protector over particular subdivisions, and you have just gotten yourself awesome political job security!

New poll shows that minorities want tougher enforcement against illegal aliens

A recent Zogby poll suggests that what open borders advocates have been telling us for years, is simply not true. The survey found that most minority Americans strongly favor tough enforcement of our borders, and believe that illegal aliens are taking jobs away from Americans.

The poll was conducted between November 13 to 30, 2009. Zogby researchers interviewed 700 Hispanic, 400 African-American, and 400 Asian-American likely voters.

    The results were as follows:

-When asked what they thought of current level of immigration, the respondents answered:

Hispanics: 56 percent said it is too high; 7 percent said too low; 14 percent just right.

Asian-Americans: 57 percent said immigration is too high; 5 percent said too low; 18 percent just right.

African-Americans: 68 percent said it is too high; 4 percent said too low; 14 percent just
    right.

-When asked what they saw as the cause behind illegal immigration, the respondents answered:

Hispanics: Just 20 percent said illegal immigration was caused by not letting in enough legal immigrants; 61 percent said inadequate enforcement.

Asian-Americans: 19 percent said not enough legal immigration; 69 percent said inadequate enforcement.

African-Americans: 16 percent said not enough legal immigration; 70 percent said inadequate enforcement.

-When asked if they thought we needed more foreign workers, or if there are enough Americans willing to fill the jobs, the respondents said:

Hispanics: 15 percent said legal immigration should be increased to fill unskilled jobs; 65 percent said there are plenty of Americans available to do unskilled jobs, employers just need to pay more.

Asian-Americans: 19 percent said increase immigration; 65 percent said plenty of Americans are available.

African-Americans: 6 percent said increase immigration; 81 percent said plenty of Americans are available.

-When asked if they believed illegal aliens living in this country should be sent home through tough enforcement of immigration laws, or if they should be granted amnesty, the respondents said:

Hispanics: 52 percent support enforcement; 34 percent support conditional legalization.

Asian-Americans: 57 percent support enforcement; 29 percent support conditional legalization.

African-Americans: 50 percent support enforcement; 30 percent support conditional legalization.

Undoubtedly, much to the chagrin of President Obama, Sen. John McCain, and greedy business,’ too numerous to list, the issue of illegal immigration is at least one issue on which an overwhelming majority of Americans can agree…We want the law enforced and our jobs reserved for U.S. citizens.

Despite the rhetoric spilling from the mouths of unscrupulous politicians, seeking new votes from those to whom they wish to grant amnesty--the strict enforcement of immigration laws is not a racial issue, but one simply of right and wrong.
