Does anyone know of an active witness who died of AIDS?

On another thread, people commented on how the WT holds that lack of belief in God makes you bad. Well, it would be interesting to know whether any active witness has died of the following:

    AIDS

    Hepatitis C

    Human Papilloma Virus-induced cancer

    Syphyllis

    Alcoholic cirrhosis

It would also be interesting to know if any active witness ever gets treatment for

    Genital herpes

    Warts

    Gonorrhea

And, in general, any sexually transmitted disease.

It would be interesting to know how many witnesses get abortions, too.

My JW ex-wife's older brother died of AIDS back in the early days of the epidemic (1980s). He was a baptized witness, gay, and was never DFd. He just moved away and nobody paid any attention. Their father was a local elder.

A longtime pioneer sister died of Hep C after visiting a South American country with her husband.

I figure that there are other ways of getting all of that without cheating in a relationship.

Several, mostly people who left the WTS, led a lifestyle that put them at more risk, came back then died.

I used to wonder if people came in as adults, how many ended up with AIDS, having not known their situation.

The WTS now says that you can have your potential mate get an AIDS test.

Good grief - does that mean that at one time they prevented this???

Is there any limit to the personal control invasion of these nazis?

It's very interesting that White Dove mentions hepatitis C in an active witness. Hep C is only transmitted through blood to blood contact. Let us rule out her having a blood transfusion, shall we? The other way is the pinch of a needle, and, then sex comes as the very last and highly unlikely cause, even if unprotected. The needle in question needs to have blood. The sister died, the husband didn't. That means sex between them was not the way the disease was transmitted. I wonder how it happened?

I'm sorry if I offend someone with this question. But the question points directly at something: Can we really say that being is is morally above than being out? Let's try to find indicators, not just words.

Blondie, I'm sorry to say it this way, but let me rephrase my question. Have any born-in, uninterruptedly active witnesses died of AIDS or contracted sexually transmitted diseases? Or died of alcoholic cirrhosis? Or has genital herpes?

I know of one abortion personally. They were teenagers, two different congregations, some things happened. Both are no longer involved w/JWs. One got reproved, the other wasn't baptized. I run into the guy periodically and we talk.

I knew of one AIDS situation. I was kid in the hall at the time. A man who I want to say was in his mid 20's, got disfellowshipped not that long after being baptized. Several years later I found out he died of AIDS related complications.

Alcoholism is more rampant amongst JWs than they would like to admit, although judging by some of the alcohol related articles that have been published by the WTS I'd think they're aware of the problem in NY. Every now and then I reflect on myself and wonder if I might be sippin more than I should. I know at least three JWs who died of issues related to alcoholism. I know of one instance where the worldly relative of an Elder made the comment that JWs drink more at wedding receptions, anniversary parties, etc, than nonJWs.

To be honest with you DPG, there's a lot I disagree with the WTS anymore, but I have to concede that many who get DFd, get it based off immorality. I wish I could say more got DF'd having the situation that SD-7 is going through. As far as active JWs involved with things, there's many who hide their flaws all too well.

Yes, a man who did drugs prior to becoming a JW, contracted AIDS as a JW and died. He was constantly held up and used as an example in talks of how 'the truth' cleans up ones life..and even when coming into 'the truth' we reap what we have sown...and why we should never leave "God's organization.

    Or died of alcoholic cirrhosis?

Isn't it pretty well accepted that famous JW lawyer Hayden Covington died from complications of alcoholism?

dgp, in this world today, if a person comes in as an adult, it is possible that they could be HIV positive. They would also be an uninterrupted jw. The only ones that are uninterrupted jws with no adult exposure would be people born in as jws and raised in a jw home.

JWoods, the WTS has an official strict rule about jws who get engaged to be married and then drop the engagement for no "good" reason. They have to prove to the elder body that the reason was not frivolous. Thus, an engaged jw is now allowed to get the other to take a test, if they refuse, can end the engagement without repurcussions, or if the person gets the test and is found positive, still be able to end the engagement without repurcussions.
