I don't think of fading as weak. I think of it as tactical. Smart, and in many ways a strong offense.

I’m also proud of the term “fader”. I successfully faded 10 yrs ago – something which took much strategic planning. I still have access to my family but I’m not harassed by the JWs.
So far so good.
Who cares....I faded....I stoped attending....don't go anymoe...I left....walked away...dropped of the radar...slipped under the fence....went out the back door....
Other than the offical wt words...da or df....there is an endless array of pharses that can be used to tell others why you are no longer a jw....walked away is the one I use....fader seems to be the most used term by current ex-, or soon to be ex-jws.....
Doesent matter, you are either in, or out.....but, whatever blows you whitsle....
"Runner" can be a Fader who is running from the Elders. (Sandman)

Is this "quibble over semantics week" or something? There have been several threads discussing the term "cult" and now we've got one about "fader."
I understand that the "fade" is from the Dub perspective, as in "fading away from the truth" but on the other hand it is a sign of independence because it is NOT a word the JWs use. They use the term "drift" away. So at least we're putting our own term on to the process. It may not always be 100% accurate without an adjective (quick-fade, slow-fade, etc.) but it seems to work perfectly fine for most. It certainly isn't the same level of issue that the term "cult" is.
I've spent thirty years learning the art of self-deprecation so any term that suggests I've become enlightened to this and no longer agree with it is fine by me. I understand though anyone on this forum who dislikes being categorised in any way.
We could try and agree a more appropriate way of describing or categorising ourselves but I think if we're truly honest we will fit into the following:
Active - Jehovah's Witness (happy)
Inactive - lacking in faith (unhappy)
Disfellowshipped - unrepentant sinner with no moral code (deeply unhappy but often blind to it)
Disassociated - headstrong with no moral code (deeply unhappy)
Everyone else - no moral code and without purpose (unhappy)

Who cares if someone is DF'd, DA'd, faded, running, a contientious objector, or chronically absent? This is not a time to introduce political correctness. This is a time to be glad that you're out.

FF. To each their own in whatever term they wish to label themselves. The main goal is to leave and stay gone.
