My 3rd gen witness parents were married in '69 and I started grade school in Sept. of '75. My preschool years were filled with the sense of urgency and doom and gloom of '75. Our family studies and conversations were rehearsals of what to do if we were separated from our parents. As scarredforlife mentioned we too suffered from constant anxiety, depression and fear of the great tribulation and armaggedon. I had nightmares about buildings falling on me and being all alone during the GT.............. Fast forward to the 80s. My parents are insisting that we make the truth our own because Jehovah isn't going to let this system go on much longer and we can't ride on their coattails forever..................whatever .

For most of the world 1975 is just a year in the past.

Yes, sense of urgency, doom and gloom is what my sister and I were raised on. There is no way this didn't have an effect on us.

My family has been in the Truthâ„¢ for a century.

1975 almost stumbled and derailed my Dad he recently confessed to me. He shook it off and pioneered for the next 25 years.

Alas, I was 'this close' to having a normal life.

I dropped out of high school to regular pioneer. In my sophmore year, my last year, I arranged my schedule with alot of art classes (I was good, the teacher allowed me to have a class room to myself, needless to say I abused the privilege, but it meant i had little homework) Two afternoons a week because of my schedule I could take off and join my brother in field service. I was a crap pioneer. I had little knowledge and little enthusiasm. My greatest accomplishment being, I made another pioneer sister laugh and she recently told me it was the funniest day of her life. She was drop dead gorgeous.

Because we believed in 1975. When nothing occurred we still felt it was still imminent. This generation will by no means pass away. How many times my mother told me how lucky she felt that she would never grow old. How many times I thought my end was so near.

We always lived as "strangers and temporary residents in the land" Now I'm paying the price.

It has always irritated me when some talk is given and the brother mocks those who believed in 1975. "We thought" this, as if we came up with our own thoughts. We were told these things, we were mislead.

mocks those who believed in 1975

This has always fascinated me as well and it's been discussed here many times.

How the Society basically blames the sheeple for 1975 instead of apologizing. Embarrasing indeed.

Wow, Aussie... astounding (and rather heart-breaking) story. As are so many here!

I don't really think 1975 affected our family directly... unless I, too, am in denial! I did have horrible nightmares and panic attacks (not to mention constant dread) of Armegeddon.

I remember it... oh, yes! I remember it! My best friend (whose parents were both Pioneers) moved away, as they were moving where "the need was great". Why? Because their mantra was "Stay Alive 'til '75!" Meaning they would walk right into the New Earth.

Oh, yes. I heard it... I read it... I remember.
