So, will the JW's be ridiculing the people who believe the world will end in 2012 and at the same time be proclaiming that the world will end at any time real soon, possibly even during 2012?
Is the new "generation overlap" thing designed to get members focused on imminence yet also get them past 2012 and 2014, the one-hundred year anniversary of the birth of the last days?
My former PO told me last week that he has been in this 69 years (whole life) and he is convinced that the end is only weeks away...possibly as long as a few months.
Onthewayout...this new generation overlap thing is the most fantastic they've come up with yet surely? Its like they sit down with conseqences and think up beginnings isnt it? ...

I love the fact that they say Jesus words had a "two-fold" prophetic fulfillment. How so? Who said it had a two fulfillments? IF it did - his words came true 37 years after he said them. That generation that was alive when he uttered the words were still around in 70 CE to see the destruction. His words had meaning. A generation meant a generation. Now - IF it had a second fulfillment - would it not mean that 37 years AFTER 1914 should have been the end - just like the prior fulfillment?
Also - they say the generation applies to the ones who are anointed and whose lives overlap. How can this be? When Jesus spoke to his apostles and said "this generation will by no means pass away" he was speaking of the generation of people living at that time. There WERE NO ANOINTED when he spoke those words. The New Covenant had not been instituted as of yet. It wasn't until after his death at Penetecost of 33 CE.

You're getting ahead of their doctrinal flips, Hadit. Some time around the year 2050 they're going to release the "new light" that NONE of the people he was speaking to were anointed, and make "this generation" mean "the great crowd of other sheep" and NOT the anointed. That way there will literally be NO END to the time period until the Borg finally crumbles.
Honestly, the "wicked and twisted generation" of 1995 completely unhooked them from a time period. It makes no sense to tie back in to a literal generation now. But I guess they needed a way to "unofficially" set a date again and stir up urgency.
Does the PO have some terminal illness like cancer.

In my opinion OTWO- The " overlapping generation theory " is being put into action now by the WT society leaders and GB to actually DELAY the alleged " end time " or " Armageddon " in the minds of witnesses. I know it sounds paradoxical - however it buys the WT society more time to pilfer older JW members inheritances, trust funds, retirements, and real estate holdings which they encourage them to donate to the WT society before they die. So- It's buying more time for their $$$$ purposes - but without INFORMING the witnesses of the REAL reason they want the generations to overlap. So they keep whipping JW's up into a frenzy of " it's any day now, it's any day now ! " Really ridiculous

Mr. Flipper - Well put - I completely agree. Such evil brilliance. If they didn't figure out a way to buy more time then the whole thing would collapse as time keeps passing and still no new order. All this new light - I'm shocked the R&F are not blind yet . . . . oh wait a minute . . .

This overlapping generation doctrine is great. The anointed generation of 1914 could have included a 10 year old who lives until 2004 (say), then a baby who is born in 2004, before old brother anointed dies, could become anointed later (because they got rid of 1935), and live until he is 100 in 2104!
Overlapping generation of annointed has just bought them another 90 odd years, by which time the current GB will be long dead and it will be someone elses problem.
