Just watching some "Twighlight Zone" T.V shows from the 1960's - 1980's I realized how paranoid about Nuclear holocust people were....evry second episode!...A showdown between the Soviets and the West was COMING SOON. In 2010 China and the USA are economic best buddies, Nuclear disbandanment is all the rage...and Communism is dead. Funny how enemies change. This was a huge blow to the preaching work with no "King of the North" and "South" to push each other to Armagedon.

JW's almost wish for world peace to disintegrate - quite sickening.

yadda yadda 2
The threat of worldwide nuclear war has ended huh? How do you come up with that naive conclusion?

I wouldn't think the threat has ended. As soon as a raghead gets a dirty bomb hes going to set it off and there
are still some dingbat Bushes in the wings. We even have Mexican Bushes in the wings.

Raghead? Dingbat bushes? What are you talking about?

YY2: well, the us and russians simply dont have the kind of missiles or systems in place that they had during the 80's, so if they desided to fight a nuclear war now it wouldnt be as devestating (for the world!) as it would have in the 80's. Also, it would require a very dramatic change in the political situation to make a global nuclear war a probable outcome.
Thats quite different from the 80's. Back then i think many thought global nuclear war was the most likely outcome in their lifetime.
I would also argue that the fact there has been a cold war without nuclear war makes nuclear war much less likely if there is a similar standof - the reason nuclear war was so close was because the russian strategists thought the americans would not go 'all in' and was planning on a local nuclear exchange that would end up with them grabbing scandinavia and most of west germany.
A part of the generals in the red army thought the americans would likely fire first and was therefore strongly advocating to launch a first attack. Today everyone knows that the only two superpowers that has been close on nuclear war WOULD have annihilated each other pretty much straight away - ie a potential chinese or russian strategist today would have to assume a MAD scenario and thus total defeat. That kind of makes the whole thing a bit unattractive.Furthermore, america will for the forseable future dominate space and thus have an edge in a MAD scenario.

jaguarbass: So far the most hi-tech solution religious extremists have come up with outside of 24 hours is boxcutters and IEDs. Fear is an enemy to.

with no "King of the North" and "South" to push each other to Armageddon.
Way back in the ancient land and civilization of Judea there was a king of the north and a king of the south,
the WTS. writers of the WTS. misinterpreted this fore-lore prophecy, but like so many other misinterpretations
what they can extrapolate to create fear has worthiness to them and their literature.

SixOfNine: huh right back! the soviet nuclea fleet, their former launch sites in the sattelite states - not exactly things that are in tip-top shape!
