OutLaw-- LMFAO--!! . Brother Jose the plumber, just got promoted to the writing dept, because he did such a fine job of fixing stinky backups. He traded a plunger for a pen and it's all under Jehoobah's direction.
So, Who Really DOES Write the WT? ( A LONG But Worthy Post)

My second question is: although the GB claims authority over the entire organization, what exactly is their legal authority? If one of the corporation presidents and board of directors decides to blaze their own path one day, does the GB have any legal recourse? - Mad Sweeny
I'm not sure the GB has any legal authority. I believe that the share holders would have the authority to depose any wayward member of the board. The share holders are hand selected by the Society. Any coup would have to be a group effort and not from any rogue individual.

Dearest MS... may you have peace!
My question is: does it really matter whether the Watchtower is written by a committee member or a GB member or anyone else if the entire organization is fraudulent? I don't believe ANY of them represent Jehovah or have the direction of Holy Spirit.
No, dear one, it does not matter at all. I only posted because I was directed to by my Lord... because apparently some didn't quite believe what I related was told to me by Mr. Barber. I could only say what he told me. Here it is, though, in their publication.

They have no legal authority... and for the most part no "other" authority, as well, in spite of what their publications state (most of the authority belongs to the Committees). Per Mr. Barber, they gave over authority in 1972... in anticipation of 1975; however, the WT didn't make this arrangement "official" until sometime in the early '90's, announcing it in the 1992 WT and 1993 Yearbook. This is slightly different from what Raymond Franz writes. Per him, the decision was made in 1975 and took effect January 1, 1976. Either, way, 1975 was the impetus. And the changes/reorganization public notification was in some way reiterated it in 2006. Apparently, however, this was after they had taken it a step further in 2000 (probably since whatever "they" thought was going to happen as a result of Y2K didn't).
The current President of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York/Pennsylvania is Don Adams, who took over from Henschel and is NOT a GB member. The current Directors are (note, this information is taken from Wikipedia, so I cannot fully state its validity, but I have no reason to doubt it):
- Don Alden Adams, director since 2000, president since 2000
- Richard E. Abrahamson, director since 2000, secretary-treasurer since 2000
- Danny L. Bland, director since 2000
- William F. Malenfant, director since 2000, vice-president since 2000
- Robert W. Wallen, director since 2000, vice-president since 2000
- Philip D. Wilcox, director since 2000
- John N. Wischuk, director since 2000
The current GB, however, consists of (and was "appointed" in (...)):
- John E. Barr (1977)
- Samuel F. Herd (1999)
- Geoffrey Jackson (2005)
- Theodore Jaracz (1974)
- M. Stephen Lett (1999)
- Gerrit Lösch (1994)
- Anthony Morris (2005)
- Guy H. Pierce (1999)
- David H. Splane (1999)
The share holders are hand selected by the Society.
Yes, dear Donuthole (peace to you, my brother!)... and, as shareholders, not only pay an initial investment price ($10/share when the corporation started), but are entitled to DIVIDENDS on such investment, under the law of Corporations. Which is why even if the GB had SOME influence on the "spiritual" aspects of the company (i.e., what is published), which they apparently don't... it is the Directors who oversee the BUSINESS of the company. And make no mistake about it, non-profit status aside, the purpose of a company is to MAKE MONEY for its shareholders.
Barbara Anderson worked in that area and some of her comments on JWN and in Google might help.
Her comments did help, dear Blondie (peace to you, as well!); however, she basically did what I did: spoke from her own knowledge or what was told to her by others who knew. Seeing it actually published in their "manual," might help some who think Barbara, I, and others are making things up see that see that we are not.
Again, peace to you all!
A slave of Christ,

It may matter to those still in.
JWs are told that the Governing Body is the representative of the Faithful and Discreet Slave.
JWs are told that only the representatives of the Faithful and Discreet Slave provide the spiritual food.
The fact that the "non-annointed" are writing articles, which is assumed by the average JW to be "spiritual food" from the "faithful slave", may make some go 'hmmmmm.....'
AGuest, thank you for the post.

The smart JW's have already bailed and any who are left after this summer's adjustments in the 1914 generation are real hard core JW's. I don't see many 70+ year old JW's exiting at that age either. Yes,they will go Hmmm, but that is all they will do- taking it up the keester is one of the hallmarks of a true and loyal JW, it seems.

not a captive
Shelby,
Thank you for putting this out there. Their faith program makes me retch.
I wrote the Branch at this exact time last year, May 10, 2009, to settle something the elders could not. I had stopped going to meetings after the 2009 Memorial pending a resolution of the matter because the elders had forbidden me to talk to any other JWs on the topic which had to do with my conscientious rejection of an important and recurring error in the literature.
August 31, 2009 was the date of the Branch response. I went to the elders to discuss it a month later. I pointed out that I had sent a letter to the Branch and signed it with my name. My life as a Witnesswas at stake. In return I received a fat letter signed by whom? Not the Faithful Slave. But who were they? It was signed:
Your brothers in Jehovah's service, Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses
The response had been farmed out to other "sheep"like myself, something I had not wanted. Years previous to this, I had mentioned my thoughts to an older JW. Her son worked in the writing department. She in turn in a phone conversation with him mentioned my scripture investigation to him and she relayed his response: "Has she checked to see what the literature says?" That was when I knew I was alone. He was on the writing committee and all he would do was endorse old news; recycle/reuse. The writing committee would only run anything I sent them through the filter of old writings without giving it a thought or a prayer. It wasn't their place, was it?I told the the elders that I gave my name, but a corporation had answered me.
I was told that I had better watch out, I was on thin ice.
The entire experience thoroughly opened my eyes, little by little. I am out now and, well, the light does get brighter the further away I get from the Organization.
Again, thanks for the post. Maeve
