Did you ever pass up an opportunity to leave the truth?

My most memorable ops to leave were:

Just prior to getting baptized at 17. My dad asked had I dedicated my life to Jehovah in prayer. I didn't know I had to. So I said a quick prayer "Oh Jehovah I dedicate my life to you now." It didn't feel right, brushed the feeling aside.

While attempting to pioneer and attend college part time I was stressed out. Something had to go. I talked to my dad about it. He said that pioneering was the most noble thing I could be doing. That didn't feel right either, brushed the feeling aside.

Shortly after getting married and joining hubby at Bethel the WT article on the generation change was delivered to our rooms.

After leaving Bethel we had a 2 week window to think about our next move. Instead of leaving the borg we brushed aside any doubt and continued on for several stressful years.

Prior to baptism I had several people try to convince me out of it. In hindsight they were obviously right, and presented facts about the WT. At that time I was so zealous I wouldn't listen and saw it as Satan trying to change my mind.

One coworker showed me some literature exposing Russell and his false prophecies. In college one student tried much more subtly to discuss the faith and talk me out of it. Even my dad gave me some books against the JWs. Like I said, I wouldn't have anything to do with it because it was 'the truth'. Boy the WT is good at controlling people's minds.

I could have done so a number of times, but decided to start reattending again for personal reasons.

I am glad I did so and not allow mens incorrect erroneous and unloving policies, procedures and teachings to put me off my faith in God. I now worship Jehovah with a measure of liberertion. I find that I now have a much closer relationship with God, despite the fact that I dont follow WT doctrine to the letter.

I know where I stand on my position on blood ie to avoid blood and use alternatives to a point. I am comfortable in leaving it to a surgeons proffessional discretion if my life was under threat. I refuse to carry a blood card and am in the process of writting up an alternative one.

I feel comfortable signing birthday cards for individuals at work.

I avoid talking as much as possible about unclear teachings such as 1914, 1919 etc

I follow what I conscientiously what is clearly taught in scripture and avoid putting faith in ambiguous puzzling teachings by the society. This has liberated my mind and allowed me to have a very close and loving relationship with Jehovah, as well as keep harmony amongst family and friends.
