Since JWs won't go to apostate boards, but they will read the newspaper...

I plan on following this up later with a letter about Watchtower history. It will include failed expectations and modern happenings such as the alliances with the United Nations. Neither letter will use my real name. Each will be sent under a different name, so that the newspaper won't tire of the same person's rants and so JWs won't refuse to read the words of a known "apostate".

I've even been considering writing local ethnic restaurants and warning them about the Witnesses, since the Asian and Hispanic communities are the ones showing real growth in the area.

So many people on the board have a defeatist attitude, and I understand that. But this site is having an impact, and I believe we can expand that impact to our own area of the planet as an individual and therefore collectively to the world as a whole.

    Hi Jimmypage,

This is very excellent and creative piece. I am going to copy the same with some slight alteration and send that to my area if possible. Howver, I think when you state that..."... and remember that there is hope out there for those who are trapped in such groups!", you omit the exit strategy and where to go. Important in my humble opinion, to provide several suggetations as to where to go otherwise, cult members will not be inclined to leave the cult on understanding that they do not the alternative place of hope to go.

    Thanks

Good point, Scott... and I'm glad to see you taking the initiative to send this along yourself in your own area. Honestly, if we all did this, think of the potential!

I completely agree. We can do a lot to help those in to get out - as well as to keep potential victims out.

Keep up with your great ideas! I'll try to drum up a few of my own.

You know, as I wrote this letter, I felt kind of like I did when I used to write talks: "Hmm, what should I put in the conclusion to motivate my audience?" Weird how the JW experience crops up even when you're doing something anti-JW.

Goes to show the extent of the mind control used on us. It's so hard to get this stuff out of our head. I remember the phrase "repetition for emphasis" being used all the time. I found out that the most basic form of mind control is . . . repetition! Simple and effective. OBEY, obey, obey! Maybe if we say get out enough - they'll listen - here's to hoping!

Trouble is, every one who is in a cult who bothers to read your letter will see how it applies to every other cult but theirs.

That is only a minor problem. The most damage I have done to the cult that I happened to have the misfortune to be born into is in warning potential members to the dangers.

When I am doing an anti-witness, I never identify the cult I was born in to. If a newspaper article immunises someone to the Moonies, Mormons, Scientologists, or any other high control cult it has done a valuable job.

Immunisation is just as valuable as extraction and is easier to accomplish.

    Cheers

    Jimmy,

I must say... Kudos to you man! I was thinking of doing something similar in my area, and now you have just given me added motivation. I love the BITE model of cult behavior, because it spells it out in pretty simple language.

One thing I also thought of doing was dropping off a similar "literature" to the local laundromats, since that is where a handful of Watchtower and Awakes are normally "placed". Maybe the rank and file won't read the stuff there, but at least the potential borg candidates might have a second thought before joining up with such an organization. If I do that, it would be specifically geared towards the WTBT$.

Thank you for the inspiration.... its no wonder Led Zeppelin is my favorite band ever!

Good letter. May I borrow some of it for my own letter?

I have written several letters that have been published here, and was just this week thinking of composing one along these specific lines. If 500 forum members sent a similar, not bitter, letter to the local paper, it might save a few.

Hell, borrow it all! Most of it was borrowed by myself from "Releasing the Bonds". I like the enthusiasm for this idea... let's do it, board! Surely we can put a dent in this beast.
