I think we have a tendency to get ourselves involved in subjects that might be "R" or worse rated BECAUSE we COULDN'T as a Jehovah's Witness.
Any talk or discussion of something considered "wrong" would get you into trouble.
Many of us who were brought up in the religion never had any real "normal fun" growing up. We couldn't associate with "worldly" people and even JWs were considered "bad association" if they didn't fit the congregation's ideals. We couldn't tell an off colored joke. We couldn't talk about politics, sports (too much). We couldn't get involved in any extra-curricular activities in school. We couldn't date. We couldn't curse. We couldn't smoke, take drugs or listen to many types of music.
A lot of us are like big kids now. And we often have fun on this board and we're silly. We don't HAVE to be so serious any longer. Of course, that doesn't mean that we're not bound by sensible rules and good judgment. There has to be a checks and balance system or else chaos would result and this place would no longer be welcoming.
Unfortunately, we may cross that line at times in our fun and not realize the problems that could result. We all have different personalities and senses of humor. Some are more serious and "hardline" while others are more liberal and not easily offended at all. Most of us are somewhere in the middle.
I learned a long time ago: not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone's going to love you. And that's OK! On this forum, the same matter of fact applies. Some people warm up to certain ones here while others look at that same person with irritation.
We're pretty much all adults here. We've shared our lives with many on this board. We've told one another of our happinesses and our devastations. This board has been there for many over the years.
Hopefully, we can appreciate and celebrate our differences! And there's no reason we can't have a little adolescent fun at times too.
