It seemed like every year they moved the DC further and further away. Last time I went to a DC, they didn't even have it in my own state (Oklahoma), but in Arkansas or Kansas. Glad I don't have to go to those boasting sessions anymore.

    We're tapering down.

Planning on just one day this year.

Either Saturday or Sunday for maximum visibility.

It seemed like every year they moved the DC further and further away.

What I noticed was that they moved them from the more populated centers where they had grown accustomed to renting the big coliseums. Of course those bigger venues in bigger cities cost more money...and then they had to fight to keep the foodservice operations and parking out of the deal. Most big venues rely on foodservice sales and parking fees to push the proceeds over the top to show a profit. Rent alone doesn't do it.

As the economy was good for many years, the bigger venues had more and more options and didn't need JWs so it pushed the WTS to seek out smaller venues in areas where they were willing to cut deals just to fill the place a few extra weeks of the year. I'm sure that's what happened where I live. They used to be in bigger cities in big coliseums, then they came to my small city in a medium sized coliseum that was always have trouble staying in the black. They were much more willing to cease foodservice and give up parking just to get some rent money.

The city does love the dubs coming in though. They're low maintance and they clean the place before and after. I remember one year the convention was the week after an indoor motocross and truck pull. I don't whose idea it was to truck in red dirt inside but it wasn't too bright. Maybe they knew the dubs would clean it for them, so maybe it was brilliant after all. All I knew was that it sucked for us. After the event the entire place was coated in red dirt dust. We came in and cleaned but not every nook and cranny got covered. I remember sitting down in a seat that got missed and my white shirt was ruined with red mud...cause red dirt and sweat makes mud...

Good place to post it again.

My very last JW meeting ever was in about 1979 or 1980 at the first Saturday morning of the circuit assembly.

I walked in - looked around for about two minutes - and just could not do it.

Walked right back out, got into my Corvette, and never looked in the rear view mirror.

The next to last assembly I went to was the cow palace in s.f. It was hotter than the proverbial hell, which is

unusual in s.f. It was one of the most miserable times I have had. The smell of cow piss would knock

you down , it was sickening. I told my wife if I was going to have to smell it then I at least wanted

to see a rodeo. I very seldom attended conventions , I hated them so bad. Finally I told my wife

she and I would both be happier if she just went with her mom or someone, and I was right , haven't been to one in many, many years.

A long time ago people would ask me why I didn't go and I would just tell them the truth. Never been asked

again and that was a long time ago.

There is a now a trend where most DC are now located out of major urban cities and yes it does have something to do with costs.

The high priced sport teams have had a role in this over the years, hence these facilities have a high rental value placed on them.

And as mentioned previously since the WTS. does not allow outside food services to sell their goods and parking not to be sold

and its easy to see why the JWS don't get a break at these facilities.

Those Assemblies used to be fun for us youngsters since we could work in the kitchens, we didn't have to bring

are own food to the site, I used to make donuts and French fries and hamburgers.

The price for the food was good so everyone was happy, the smell of the kitchens I remember used to waft

itself up the sitting areas of the stadium and everyone knew that dinner was soon to occur with anticipation.

The DC in Vancouver BC was usually held at the PNE Fairgrounds so slipping out for a hour of fun on the Roller Coaster

and other rides was a gas, I used to save money up just for that alone.
