rebel8, the UI laws are not the same in every state. I agree when people break the laws they should suffer the consequences. But it is impossible to look out at a group of people unknown to you and make a snap judgment that they are on unemployment just because they are not working at that moment. I used to take vacation time...I would have been seen out going d2d, and people would have been very wrong to think I was on unemployment.

    Right.

There is an hypothesis about these people because we all know there are lots of jw leeches (but not all of them are).

If it's worrisome enough, ask for their names and do a little checking.

I recently was somewhat involved in one able-bodied jw leech not getting food stamps--just by providing truthful information to the proper authority--and frankly I'm proud of it. (And yes I'd do the same for a non-jw able-bodied leech.)

The word "piosneer" applies to many of the people I knew who pioneered. I knew a few who did it sincerely, but mostly, it was just the usual piety mouthing BS that super Witnesses indulge in.

The pioneers in my hall are either retired, work full or part-time.

I did know the occasional pioneer that was on welfare or government aid of some kind, but it was not the norm.
Blondie makes a good point that it cannot be assumed what their story is when you see JW's out in the pioneer strut (I prefer "stroll" as it sounds slower-paced).

I knew one woman that pioneered and she had a mental disorder. Her case worker thought that if she could put 90 hours a month (at that time) into the door-to-door work, she could work part-time. It scared her, so she dropped out of the official pioneer ranks and still went out all the time, just not counting all of her time. I guess she appeased her case worker that any kind of "real work" scared her.

I knew another pioneer that made sure to keep her work hours and salary low enough to keep getting government aid. It was sad to see that she could have lived more comfortably if she worked more and spent less effort in the "ministry."

Most were wives of full-time workers or retired people, some were young adults out of school still living on Mom and Dad's dime.

This morning, I saw 6 JW's out in the pioneer stroll. Sunday morning, 7:20 AM- I was driving home from work. 3 were walking one street, 3 others walking another street. None in a hurry, nobody on the street to talk to.

they are obviously leeching off the welfare system and we are flipping the bill for being bothered at the door

Obviously ?? When I was a Cong Secretary, the rule was that we could not appoint a Regular Pioneer who received Unemployment Benefit, even if he was, say, in later years and unlikely to find work before he retired. We were told by "The Society" that such claimants had declared to the Government that they were seeking jobs and it was not right to take up the Pioneer Service.

NB..We could allow "Auxiliary Pioneering for a month at a time. They could drop that at a moment and take a job. Claimants of other benefits were not excluded from the Pioneer Ministry if their health and strength permitted..eg. the blind .

I pioneered for several years. I worked part time cleaning at night and spent my daylight hours in the field circus.

There was a local news expose here in detroit years ago about a jw who was in fs while he was on the clock making OT. They showed him doing D2D. What made it worse was he worked for the school system which already had like a hundred million $ deficit.

My old hall had a lot of pioneers. All had part time jobs, were self employed, or were retired. There was only one guy who routinely collected unemployment insurance. He worked in the construction industry, so during some of the colder winter months he collected unemployment insurance and auxiliary pioneered.
