Of course Jesus and Paul both mention that there are no masters and that all are equal and all are servants.

Only spiritually. Paul nor Jesus said they were equal socially. "Fetch me the head of a pig on a platter and wash my feet and then clean the horse stables for your mere subsistance. It's ok, once we get to heaven it's all square!"

In other words, He saw the BIG picture and was not constrained by puny little men and their puny little ... well, you get the picture.

Sylvia....are you saying God was so unconstrained he was unable to give man better guidelines? God could have 1)created man without the raping and whoring urges or... 2)started smiting anyone who broke the rules (had he made rules against those things). Amazing how people fall in line after a good smiting.

Since he did neither, he clearly WAS constrained or didn't give a shit about women.

    It was a man's world---no doubt!

The VAST MAJORITY of those laws were man made and attributed to God.

Jesus condemended them for this on a few occasions.

Yeah, just the ones we like were from god. All the bad ones were from man. bad man, bad! A La Carte Christians...

That becomes the crux of the matter doesn't it?

IF and the key is IF, one beleives that God is Good and God is Love, as is taught in the NT, then we have to work our way back and reconciel what seems to be from God and "wrong" and see if that is truly from God.

He did give them guidelines (no sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmas, etc.); my point is that He didn't allow Himself to become sidetracked by lustful Man who would and did find a way to sidestep most of His commandments, anyway.

The Mosaic Law was accepted by Jesus.

    Jesus washed his disciples feet.

The core of Jesus teachings was that ALL are equal, even ones enemies and even ones "slaves" for all our slaves.

Syl, that's not a good argument.

He allowed himself then to get "sidetracked"with all these other laws and restrictions.

    *sigh*

It is my opinion that His sole purpose was to found a nation that would produce the Messiah.

I believe all the other stuff was incidental to that purpose.

He tried; Lord knows He tried.

    Jesus washed his disciples feet.

Red herring. They weren't slaves he had paid a merchant for.

The core of Jesus teachings was that ALL are equal, even ones enemies and even ones "slaves" for all our slaves.

    Only spiritually.

God was good AND he was love. He was good at killing and hot damn did he love doing it. Jesus beleived in the flood where god killed....well, pretty much everyone, babies included, never said "yeah, that was kind of a dick move by Dad."
