"So being a Jew obviously wasn't THAT special...."

At least they weren't Canaanite! "I want your land. You die!!!"

One of the things I wanted to ask here is a response to several comments made earlier, about god being busier with other things to be concerned (paraphrasing...at work not much time) with enforcing his law. I think you know what I'm getting at.

So what do you think he was doing? Was it really more important than overseeing the "people for his name" and lineage to his very own son? By which the entire human race was to be redeemed?

BTW, I am sincere in my asking. I was a believer for many years and respect each other's right to their own belief and right to change. It all just doesn't add up to me anymore. But I am still curious, and tethered to the discussion of it all. TIA.

I guess common sense could be considered funny

If your not accustomed to such things.

Yeah, I thought what i posted was a little to much too.

But I also think calling someones well thought out, well presented thoughts "funny" a little to much.

Who, exactly, is saying that Jehovah or God allowed polygamy or having concubines?

The men who wrote the scrolls - most likely the very men who practiced polygamy and had concubines.

Who, exactly, is saying that Jehovah or God blessed the people who practiced polygamy and had concubines?

The men who wrote the scrolls - most likely the very men who practiced polygamy and had concubines.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: "God" did not make man in his image. Men made gods in their image, to justify the practices they embraced, to sanctify the barbarism they practiced.

You guys are awesome. Makes me smile on a otherwise lousy day.

Well, this is a very interesting topic, I never really thought about in depth. This makes me think, of the what the bible saids on Marriage. One man & one woman can marry...... at any onetime?, is it possibl? Its just a thought, nothing to back it up....just wondering the interpretation possiblities.

    Any thoughts?

So can we apply the argument that God wasnt too worried about polygamy and concubines because it was widely accepted to todays society? Today polygamy and concubinage are not widely accepted but homosexuality is becoming so. Maybe God is not too worried about that today?

I'm really not too fond of the mosaic law. A woman suspected of adultery has to go through the drinking the sweepings of the temple floor and declaring innocence in front of the High Priest - remind me, what did a man suspected of adultery have to do?

Snowbird and I disagree on certain (ok, a lot) points, but she's a sweetheart. It's a friendly banter :)
