    AuntBee,

My wife has voiced a lot of her views to me privately that would not go down well should they start spreading amongst the flock. I think in terms of the 1914 thing though, she is completely ignorant (or pretends to be at least) concerning the significance of it. I think that is why she downplays the importance of the 607 vs 587 B.C.E. dates. As long as she has a pseudo-Scholar who can reinforce in her mind that 607 is correct, she is happy.

The elder who we use to study with however, understands the significance of it. The last time he and I talked on the subject he told me that if 607 was wrong then the impact of it would be significant. I explained to him how the Bible spoke of servitude for 70 years and not desolation for the entire time and said that I would get back with him with more info. I'm torn though because if he is indeed sincere and what I tell him wakes him up, well, he has spent 50 years believing in the truth. I'm not sure what the phsycological impact of it will be on him.

I hear some comments about 1914 not being pushed so much. However, the next to last meeting I went to back in February was a Watchtower Study and it pounded the 1914 issue hard in several paragraphs. Honeslty, I quit reading WT publications several years ago, so i cannot attest to the frequency of it, but I know that meeting hit on it pretty hard.

The funny thing is that one pioneer sister commented that "there are SO MANY prophecies that confirm 1914". I almost turned around and looked at her when she said that.

OTWO - interesting comments. The 15 minutes has secretly lowered the bar a lot, and brought numbers back up. Good point. I agree with you on the lawsuits and such. It's surprising nothing big has popped up recently, as big as the organization is. I think it's overdue.

We're having out CO visit this week. Last night he stressed that this week we will be going over prophecy about the "sign of the conclusion of this system of things". Highlighting Matt 24, and he stressed the coming up on 100 yr anniversary of 1914.

I honestly think and believe that 2015 is going to open a lot of eyes to "the truth". The WBTS has roughly 4 years to overhaul doctrine and create new lies and deception to keep it's members.

    Just my .02 cents.

garyneal - I believe that win, lose or draw - people are better off knowing the real truth.

Except in isolated cases, of course. If a person was 80 years old and their whole world was JW, then I can see how maybe they are better off left alone.

Has someone done a timeline of when beliefs were added/dropped/mutated?

Good question, StAnn. I haven't seen a comprehensive timeline; just some individual ones on certain doctrines. The latest is the generation change.

He is in his 80's so I am torn. On the one hand I feel like it is my duty to at least inform him. On the other hand, I would hate to think how he would respond if he does not take it well.

My family has an almost desperate mood about them over the changes. It is sad to listen to them grasping at straws about the changes concerning the generation and the sealing of the anointed. These were core teaching points back in the day and I am amazed at how they are downplaying the significance of them now............ sigh

garyneal - That's a tough call. Being that he is of that age, I'm gonna withdraw my opinion and yield to the opinions of others on here who have more experience than me in dealing with people leaving cults.

1914 could be a bit difficult to discard.
