Who has a right to reality? Anyone/no one?

Life is about whatever you make it about. You develop your purpose and your road to that purpose.

Your success or failure is measured by how close you get to fulfilling the purpose you set for yourself.

But--when it comes to religion and especially christianity and particularly Jehovah's Witnessess it is a different thing altogether.

Your life isn't about your life in the real world. Reality is the enemy.

    Your life is "on hold".

    Why?

This life is empty of meaning other than a bridge to an imagined "better" life...........later.

So, you trade the value of life for the promise of a better life.

Like a gambler who pushes "all in" and hopes to rake in the pot.

A delusional life for a delusional reward is a sad, sad life.

If reality is the enemy of happiness it all the more enforces that realization: truth is a lie.

So, let's ask your question another way.

"Should the last words my parents ever hear from my lips to them be a lie?"

    Your call.

"Should the last words my parents ever hear from my lips to them be a lie?"

    Your call.

    Or perhaps

"Would I want my children to point out my faults/wrongs/failures in life on my deathbed?"

    Your call.

    REALITY is real.

Should we change that to: Reality is ONLY REAL when it isn't painful?

When we say the opposite of what we believe is real we lie.

One who lies is a liar.

Lying to anybody (especially the person most dear to us) destroys the bond of trust and nullifies the basis for esteem.

    Your call.

Socrates was looking for a guy like you,...;)

I know what my call will be and I'm ok with it.

Both you and your grandfather believe in God. That is your insurance policy that promises you will avoid death. Which religion you have joined to obtain this insurance is irrelevant. Either the policies are genuine or bogus.

Why try to swap your grandfathers policy for yours so late in the day? What possible difference can it make? He has lived his life and found a feeling of security in his belief. That feeling is all he has left now. Why try to take it away, so late in the day?

Perhaps you should question your own beliefs, in the living years, rather than your grandfathers and avoid finding yourself in his position many years from now?

There is a dramatic device in stories where a deathbed confession is made.

A deathbed confession of guilt for some bad deed done which exonerates an innocent party.

The Law accepts deathbed confession as proof for the logical reason nobody wants to die with a lie on their lips.

Now, turn this around. Who wants to die with a lie in their ear?

Is Truth a convenience? Is it like a thermostat setting to be adjusted for personal comfort?

Or is truth mere conformity to things as they really are regardless of palatability?

We hold things dear because we believe in the VALUE of those dear things.

If those things are poisonous and nobody tells us what is the result?

We VALUE poison and defend it to our very death.

Happiness and comfort based on a totally unrealistically held VALUE is false happiness and false comfort.

What virtue lies within a distortion which brings false comfort?

Think of the final paragraphs of OF MICE AND MEN.

George knows Lenny will be lynched by a mob of angry men and doesn't want to see that happen.

To comfort Lenny, George starts telling him about the farm they are going to have (which will never happen) and all the pretty

rabbits Lenny will be able to hold and pet. As he is telling Lenny about the rabbits he holds a gun to his head and shoots him.

Lenny is feeble minded and his only comfort in life is the idea that someday he'll have rabbits to pet.

Shouldn't we all turn Lenny around and tell him about those non-existent rabbits he'll never have while we put him out of his misery?

Yes, if you want to undermine the pathos of a good ending,....

I wonder if that will ever change now that fewer people believe in God. If there's no God and no fear of punishment after death, there's less reason to care if one dies "with a lie on their lips".

I believe that God examines everyones heart on their last day.....

I really dont believe he gives a hoot for all religion.
I know many of you Chriistians will tell me I am wrong.

But HE is the only reader of hearts....Many JWS are wonderful folk (MOST IN MY OPINION)

Many do wonderful things I know I did !!! I used to clean folks houses when they had no time

to take my offer of a free study. So I cleaned their home so they DID have time
I minded their kids so they could go to there DR viisits ,Of course my actions allowed them to
take the FREE study...I do believe we are Gods adopted kids, & the order was "what you do to one of mine

you do to me also...". How do we know what is on a persons heart.....
