Daniel-P, not to mention the article in a WT of last year requesting men who formerly served, to reach out again. Also the KM article from last year specifically tailored to preaching to males. Articles like those indicate the male shortage is deeper than they'd like to let on. Speaking from the perspective of a born in, all the guys I grew up with in my home congregation, all left at a young age, with the exception of myself and another fella. 90% of the young dudes I knew in other halls did the same, either left or got DF'd with no intention of coming back. The ones who have come back are on the fence and only come to appease family. Times I've given talks in other halls, I've noticed either a shortage of young people, or the young ones who attendance, particulary the males, look like they can't wait till the meeting is over.
Which gender is most likely to leave the JW's?

Males most likely to leave. Among the young, males are more naturally independent, frequently less needy of family, prefer their wild side, rebellion for awhile. Once the male stays in for awhile or returns, gets "privileges (?), honor and respect and dominance, position, leadership, then he is stuck, until or if he loses that, or has a "crisis of conscience."
The females, young and old, are catching up to them now-a-days, though.

Men
Definitely -- but some of the single gals arent opting for pioneer status and need a man - there isnt any in the cong unless old - any single guys are in a field of dreams with the women vying for his attentions, that leaves more women than men - and women want a home and nest -- Jehovah instilled it and they will get it by hook or crook and then return to the fold

Men definately. They wise up early on to the BS, politics, restrictiveness and brown-nosing in the congregation and leave.

The skewed gender ratio in the Jehovah's Witnesses always fascinated (and repulsed!) me...
I always wondered why women would stay in such an obviously misogynistic religion...
While men were reluctant to join a religion that gave them status right below Jesus Christ the Borganization...
Men are more likely to leave, I think, if one is determining this strictly by gender... But LOngHairGal made some excellent points... One could get a better picture of who is most likely to leave by looking at other factors, and the ones she mentioned are significant, in my opinion...
I'd sure LIKE to see women leave!!! IN DROVES!!!
That would actually be more likely to 'hamstring' the WTBTS, since so much of the 'grunt' work is done by the women...
Unfortunately, it is presently a 'human condition' that women are viewed as being less valuable than men, in spite of some advances towards equality - and I'm speaking globally, here...
