Question about priviledges

It depends on the congregation. If the hounders feel you really want to become a witless or return in good standing, they might hold out a good long time out of spite and contempt. If you are not yet baptized, you could insinuate that you are being stumbled about how long it is taking them to reinstate your "privileges", citing that Peter basically disowned Jesus three times and had a huge privilege just 40 days after. If that doesn't work, perhaps it's time to find another religion.

As for the "privileges", they are bogus. So you cannot comment. What comments are really allowed these days? Mostly reading the answer in the words of the paragraph. No, it didn't used to be that way--I have myself gotten away with explaining and using my own illustrations. But, these days it is not really acceptable to more than read the answer out of the paragraph or use the stock illustration.

And giving talks? One day, I recommend preparing a talk just for fun. Now, take the Bible itself and try to explain that viewpoint using the Bible and JUST the Bible. Chances are good that, if you put the scriptures in context, it will say nothing like what it is claimed to say. Now, would you want to give that talk when it is composed of taking scriptures out of context?

You are allowed to be a unbaptised publisher and not be on the school. Even baptised publishers can choose not to be on the school. The only thing to be wary of is that if you say you do not want to be on the school the elders may question what your reasons are, and if they determine you are doing/thinking something wrong they could remove you from being counted as a publisher.

I always found it interesting that people are allowed to preach even when they are forbidden from giving talks, especially since the talks were to help you learn to be better preachers.

If I refuse to be in the thocratic ministry school will/can they tell me that I am no longer an unbaptised publisher?

My mother joined the JWs in the mid 1970s when she was in her mid to late fifties. She never joined the school or gave a talk and it did not prevent her from joining the cult.

I've had privileges removed and given back more times than I can count, and there was never a backroom meeting. I was counseled many times, almost always informally, but removal of privileges never seemed to coincide with any of these sessions. I knew my privileges were removed when they removed me from watchtower reader lists, microphone duty lists, etc., but these removals never came with an explanation. A few times the entire body of elders would go several months without even saying 'hello' to me, but there was never an explanation for this. The only time I received an explanation was when they removed my privileges of being the account servant and working in the sound dept. They said it was because I was taking courses, which made me a bad example.

That being said, I suggest you re-evaluate the whole concept of "privileges". In what way is working for free a "privilege"? This is part of the JW control mechanism. They try to convince you that catering to their whims is an honour and a "privilege". When you comment, you're doing them a favour. Ever notice the discomfort of a study conductor who can't extract comments from the audience? When you comment you're helping him get through his "part". You, personally, don't benefit at all. Neither do you benefit when you run a microphone, give out literature, do the accounting, or are assigned to greet people. (yes, even that is an assignment).

The elders will con you into working for free, believe that it's a privilege to work for free, and then use that "privilege" as a stick to beat you with. Their purpose is to shatter your self respect, even break you, in order to make you "maleable".

Do yourself a favour and get away from that cult before you ruin your life in it.

Back when I was still going to the hall, sporadically, there was a young man who had been df'ed and that poor kid was always there at each and every meeting sitting all alone and forlorn in the back...for literally over two years...maybe three... i always wondered why on earth or how on earth he could continue to come and be denied acceptance back into the fold. makes me wonder if he is still sitting there to this day. i certainly hope not. As someone mentioned, it is all so demoralizing. They want you to stick out like a sore thumb in society in general, and then they pull it on victims in the congregation. And call it ENCOURAGEMENT?!?!?!?!?!? try TORTURE.

You could end up waiting months, there is no criteria, it is subjective and based on the attitude of the elders and shockingly their memory. You could end up being forgotten about for months until you bring the issue up and then they will possibly get their feelings miffed that you were brazzen enough to call them on it.

    Decision time dear friend.

I don't believe its written anywhere specifically how long your commenting and talks are to be on ice. I can see them allowing you to continue going in field service as long as whatever you did isn't something that is "public knowledge." As previous posters mentioned, you need to go to the two Elders who handled your "situation". The rest of the body is typically only aware of what happened on the surface. Typically when it goes down in a "brief" Elders meeting, the two who are handling it, tell the rest of the body what punishments they've handed down. 9 times out 10, the rest of the body says ok after a couple comments from the brown nosers and self righteous elders, and then they move onto the next subject. At that point, you're forgotten about. When other Elders see you, they know your damaged goods, even though they might not remember the specifics as to why you're chopped liver. The few situations I've seen similar to your with baptized and unbaptized publishers, it was typically a handful of months that the offender privileges were on ice.

P.S., why are you so concerned about getting your privileges back, but you're on an apostate website? It's the equivalent of an NAACP member worrying about when the Klan is going to start accepting Black members.

I’m surprised that PeterX cares, considering that in Greece the Witnesses are treated like scum by the Greek Orthodox Church. Why be part of a religion is a hated minority? Be proud of your Greek roots and embrace your Greek heritage.

I would read Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. He was at the very top as a Governing Body member, so he is well familar with the rules and policies of the organization. He also answers lots of questions that you might have never thought of, but that might trouble you later.

It's an excellent book. I recommend it.
