Yeah, I admit, I set her up big time. I told her that the lady was really interested in the Bible, which wasn't lying at all.

The Baptist minister's wife (they were what they called "Liberal Baptists") was a neighbor of mine who I really liked. I didnt like her husband as much though...too die hard political. I didn't want to hear how great Bush was from him every time I said howdy neighbor. He was a decent guy, though...I just didn't want to argue politics with him all day, because I'm not a Republican. (not a Democrat either, but that didn't seem to phase him much, LOL)

My attitude is that I will serve Him because I love Him. What He chooses to do in return is entirely His business and none of my concern. It is the same way I am towards my family, friends, and neighbors. I help them because I want to, not because I expect something in return. I have always found it disturbing to hear talk about all the crowns and mansions they want when they get to Heaven.

This question can get pretty profound depending on how deep down the rabbit hole you wish to go.

I think it is fair to say that people believe because they a) want the promise of everlasting life and b) do not want the consequence of everlasting damnation.

People who say that they DO certain things for the rewards miss the point of the free gift of everlasting life to those who BELIEVE.

But if believing also require us to do certain things beyond saying, "I believe in Christ," for after all part of SHOWING that we believe in Christ is performing HIS will, then the question can go even deeper.

The deeper question would be, why do people cling to the idea of everlasting life and eternal damnation to begin with?

It is safe to say that all people believe in the laws of cause and effect.

People want to be rewarded for doing good and they also want the people doing bad to be punished.

It's called, being just, justice must rule the day.

But what of the rich and powerful who can seemingly do whatever they want without consequence.

Their rewards are in the afterlife.

    So did man invent God?

Another way to look at it is everything comes top down, leadership, laws, etc. so all our morality must have come from somewhere.

Did I go too far down the rabbit hole? Did I manage to dig myself out?

Every morning when I hear the alarm clock, it's like a little party, letting me know that I'm alive another day.

I think most reasonable Christians would agree that even if this life is all we have, living the Christian lifestyle is perhaps the best lifestyle to live in terms of choices and consequences. At least that is what Christians who enjoy the Christian lifestyle believe. Which means that at the very least, they are being true to themselves.

I think that is the most fair and reasonable answer from honest Christians who enjoy living their faith.
