A snippet from a JW email - what a way to view the world we live in!

My wife received an email from her friend, a JW. I suppose it is just a small thing but it highlights one of the things that really pisses me off about the JW religion.

After talking about some situation she comments:

"I know it's always hard work in this system, totally rubbish. We're all in it together I guess."

I mean, what a way to think! To feel so disatisfied that you view life as 'hard work' or 'totally rubbish'. The reason that it annoys me is that it just rolls off the tongue with these people, as if it's a fact.

Well, I beg to differ! My wife has 2 beutiful healthy kids with another one on the way. A good measure of health. A hard working husband who loves & cares for his family. A lovely house with a fridge full of food. A nice family who supports her in everything she does. Pretty much everything you would ever want out of life & yet because they are drip fed the bullshit that they repeatedly hear at the kingdom hall, this is still not good enough. Life is still viewed as 'hard work' & 'totally rubbish'.

I mean FFS, get some perspective.

Maybe life is 'hard work' & 'totally rubbish' if you are a jehovahs witness. But don't put everyone is the same boat. Some of us cherish what we have & we enjoy our life.

Negative, negative, negative. Sums up that awful religion.

Thats the way they are conditioned to think. Tear down the world we live in, make all aspects of it seem satanic and place burdens or loads on adherants that makes the world seem even harsher.

So true. This is the end times, so everything must be the worst there ever was. My wife is actually convinced if she was living 200 years ago she would be much happier. If I try to explain the living conditions they had then she thinks I'm making it up to ruin her faith. Many of these JWs have a wonderful life, better than the royalty had 200 years ago, yet they have to think it's very bad, because it has to be in the end days. It's just sad.

You have to love that viewpoint - no wonder 75% of the congregation is miserable and on anti-depressants.

I was watching the history channel the other day about medivial England. Now those were horrible living conditions. People today should be grateful for the quality of life most of us have. Too bad the WT makes it so that Witnesses cant see the forest through the trees!

Right, because cleaning up billions of dead, faming for our food and trying not to get bored for the next billion years will be cake.

You know what would be interesting? To get several of the congregation lists and then do a survey by mail or email or telephone as to how many JWs are on some type of anti-depressant - and then call the same # of people from a regular church and ask the same thing. You'd have to do it so they didn't know you were targeting JWs of course, which might raise some ethical issues...still, I think the results would be very telling.

Oh - and it IS hard work living in this world when you're killing yourself cleaning and window washing. ;)

No, even then living isn't necessarily hard work. Does your 8 hour 5 days work pay for the food, clothing and housing needs? Then you're not struggling, welcome to real life and be grateful for what you have. JW's view of paradise won't change that either, you still have to work day by day. What, you though it will be just relaxing and chatting with your friends? Then you're in the wrong religion - join Islam, their Paradise view is more fitted to that image.

Of course if you add the constant pressure to "do more" for the WTS on top of the regular 8 hour work, then I believe you, it's a struggle. It makes an 8 hour day work into at least 11 hours per day. But blame it on who put the yoke on you.

Edit: this wasn't directed at you Georgiegirl I just happened to quote you, nothing more.

    Good post Jambon!

I was just thinking about how my mother (a life long JW) views the world. Everything that she sees on the news elicits the same response from her...this is proof that the "end of the system" is near. She is incredibly negative, and actually revels in every little disaster or world events. If the stock market drops, she sees it as a collapse of the system; if the volcano spews ash and closes airports, it is proof the end is near; every earthquake is irrefutable evidence that time is short...you get the idea. JW's love pain and suffering...it validates their existence.

Negativity is the mantra of the average JW!

The religion thrives on negativity, it is what it needs to survive..It is designed to appeal to the negative ones in society, the ones that are "sighing and crying", remember?

Of course individuals vary in their rationality. I have known many though (sisters dare I say) who loved to blame everything, from a car break down to a child's sniffle , on "This old system" and "Won't they be glad when it is all gone!"
