That was all in the '70s and early '80s. Then in the '90s came the doramas. One of my favorite shows of all time was Ienakiko (with Yumi Adachi), which was subtitled and aired as "Angry Innocence". I have been searching for DVDs or CDs of that show for years and years.

I've been looking for the English dub of "Meiken Jolie". AKA "Belle and Sebastien." If you ever come across it, let me know. I'd love to watch with my kids.

Remember it well, although the 1960's permutation I'm familiar with was much more primitive.

    Thank you for your comments.

I thought that foreigners seldom knew "Ultraman."
But it seems that many people know.

Well, When I say such subject, I am worryed that those names (title) are always different.
That is, in almost all cases, an "English title" differs from an "original title."

For instance, the original title of "Speed Racer" is "Mach, Go, Go."
And the original title of "G-Force" is "Gacchaman."
And the original title of "Star Blazers" is "Yamato."

In the case of the "Yamato", I think that change of that name is fatal (it completely impairs that original meaning).
Because "Yamato" is the name of ancient Japan and the "Japanese soul" (Japanese spirits) is expressed.
And the battleship "Yamato" fought with the United States at the time of World War II.

About "Ultraman", although it is almost the same as the "original title", that pronunciation (Japanese name) differs from English.
"Ultra" does not pronounce with "Altra" like English, but it pronounces like "Wurutora" in Japanese.
    That is "Wurutoraman."

For me, this subject/problem always makes me remember the subject of the "Divine Name." :)

Well, about the "Yamato", the new movie made by CG was released last year (2009).

Ahhhh Star Blazers, I watched that freshman year in high school. I remember talking about it with my classmates in biology class. I didn't even know it was Japanese, or originated from a Japanese anime.
