Man, when I was a kid I tried my parents' coffee - Folgers™, Maxwell House™, or something like that...

Same reaction as when I tried beer ... "What the HECK are you people THINKING?!?!??!!!"

Then I tried "Allegro" coffee - one of those pricier, 'designer' coffees - and they roast it up only a couple miles from my house... Mmmmmmm, boy! Does the neighborhood EVER smell good on those days!!!

So, I drank their coffee for 3 years - after having avoided coffee throughout my ENTIRE adult life... 'Cause theirs tastes DELICIOUS!!!!

I liked it, my body didn't. My body won the argument... I was having the same symptoms you've described, especially when I used a "french press". Switching to a paper-filter arrangement helped - it screens out quite a bit of the oils of the bean, which were responsible for speeding up the heart-rate... Helped a lot, but then my body reacted in a DIFFERENT way, that made quitting inevitable...

Boy, I sure miss that delicious coffee...

Psssst! @Shamus!!! Hey, Monkey!!! How about "quite savory", instead of "savourous" - or whatever the heck that word was that you used...

Perculated coffee is much preferred to regular old' coffee. :)

I also drink cowboy coffee when I do my outdoorsy things - just coffee grounds on the bottom of the pot and boiled. Yum!

    Jamaican Blue Mountain.

Isn't that like $50/lb? Not doable on a day-to-day basis.

Until a few months ago I drank 4 cups every morning, and usually 2 more when I got to work. I had the feeling you describe in my chest as well. I've cut back to 1 cup of decaf at work daily and 2 cups of regular coffee on weekends only. My heart doesn't feel like it's in convulsions anymore.

I like Turkish coffee once in a while.
