Heard it talked about by both the officers and wives.....
I am not downplaying the stress that comes with that job..... not all officers should be officers, same can be said for teachers and elders!

Hi beks...I was commenting on both yours and Ynots comments, so two different tracks from me in one post...I believe she had mentioned wife beating cops.
Ynot...I am sure, based on your comments, that you have seen some domestic abuse by cops...nonetheless, I think it is a bit of a stretch to paint cops with a broad brush statement. I suspect that the statistics would show that the incidence of domestic violence among cops is the same or less than the general population. It is despicable for it to be perpetrated by anyone...period. As a cop, I certainly have a perspective that differs from the average person. I can speak for myself and say that there is no way I would allow myself to be attacked without defending myself, but I would like to think my judgement would help keep me out of situations that are volatile and likely to escalate. Unfortunately, the job puts you in constant contact with people that will fight over the most minor things and then decisions have to be made and actions taken.

I just realized she was not even the woman he was initially dealing with.
The guy with sense in his head was holding her back.
As far as her being a minor the cop had know way of knowing that IMO.

Funny, because I just asked myself that question. The honest answer is, yes. I would feel that the officer was justified in using whatever means needed to stop an attack before it happened. I would have still thought it was handled wrong, especially with a crowd and the officer being alone - could have been dangerous for him too.
Now this is just an assumption on my part, but I would guess that officers are trained to see people - not male/female - and to handle each situation that occurs according to this training.

I work in law enforcement in a county jail. I have been trained for the road and am considering going out on the road.
Maybe he could have ignored her, is that what the public wants?
Still it not what the public wants, its what big business wants,
in this case the insurance industry.
Maybe jay walking, I might look the other way.
Nobody can tell me what I saw or didnt see at least not until I engage.
You have to pick your battles.
THe stressful part is maybe in his muster the officer was told to crack down on the jay walkers on his beat.
Once things escalate you have the situation that we are talking about here.
Big business makes the laws and runs the country.
The insurance companies tell the police what to do.
If there are a lot of pedestrians getting hit jay walking the insurance companies are cracking down on the police to
do something.
The police serve big business.
Its a pacifier and mass controller delusion that the police or government serves the citizens.
Never have, never will.
THis is not something I am making up or have read in some book.
I have been to two police academies and thats how it works.
Business and lobbiest make laws not citizens.
In the jail I always think through what is going to happen, if I enforce this law and who cares if I enforce this law?
I dont do any more in the jail than I have to and if I go out on the road I wont do any more than I have to.
Legally in the matrix of escallation it is called maintaining controll with the least amount of effort necessary.
Thats not to say I am lazy, that is the thought process I have developed to survive in this field.

You say he could have written her a citation, I would bet she wouldnt sign for it or accept it.
Obviously she had no upbringing or respect for the law.
The majority of people that end up tangling with the law and police dont have parents or any one
to bring them up, they are lucky if the are raised by a grandmother.
In law enforcement you work your shift, try to keep a low profile under the radar, pick your battles.
I find its best not to get emotionally involved in law enforcement, I try to stay cool as a cucumber. But most
of my coworkers get very emotinally involved and upset.
Many times when we have incidents in the jail officers have heart attacks or pass out and I watch them,
its like they are full of piss and vinegar and then they go down.
We had 2 officers taken to the hospital this past week because they couldnt breathe during or after the incidents.
And they were young 20's and 30's.
IF that officer survives this event and stays in law enforcement, he will probably learn to spend more of his shift
in the coffee shop.

Yknot I will say as a trained professional in Florida he could have shot her.
Thats not to say, thats what I would do.
But he was in his rights to shoot her.
All he has to say is I was in fear for my life.
And shes dead.
She was in his danger zone.
Its all on film.
She should count her blessing in Juvie tonight but I dont think she will.

Seattle police are investigating what they call an assault of an officer in South Seattle. However, a police officer is seen punching a 17-year-old girl in the face during the incident captured by a video camera on Monday.
According to Seattle police, the incident began when an officer spotted a man jaywalking in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way S. at approximately 3:10 p.m. The man was some 15 feet away from a pedestrian overpass, police said.
The officer was talking to the man when he saw four young women jaywalk across the same street at the same spot. The officer asked the women to step over to his patrol car, but the women were being "verbally antagonistic toward the officer," according to officials.
One of the women, later identified as a 19 year old, began to walk away from the scene despite the officer's instructions, prompting the officer to walk over to her and escort her back to his patrol car.
The girl then "began to tense up her arm, and pull away from the officer while yelling at him," investigators said. The officer told the girl to place her hands on his patrol car, but she refused. When the officer tried to grab hold of her, "she pulled away and twisted, breaking free of the officer's grip several times," the blotter report said.
When the officer tried to handcuff the girl, another girl, this one 17 years old, intervened and placed her hands on the officer's arm, "causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject's escape," police said.
The officer pushed back the second girl, but the girl came back at him. The officer then punched her, police said.
The officer then handcuffed the 19-year-old woman. Other officers arrived and helped handcuff the second girl.
Both teens were cited for jaywalking. The older suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of obstructing an officer. The 17-year-old girl was booked into the Youth Service Center for investigation of assault of an officer.
Nobody was injured during the incident, police said.
Seattle police have not reviewed the video of the incident. Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said investigators may review the video on Tuesday.
Whitcomb said the officer involved in the incident sent out a call for help, prompting other officers to rush to his aid.
All use of force on the job is reviewed, Whitcomb said, as use of force is under the officer's discretion. He added that punching is a trained tactic.
"There will be a thorough investigation into this incident," he said

Unless it is a matter of life and death (as in she is gonna kill him for real)...... a male officer never needs to punch a woman.
Bull crap. A threat is a threat, regardless of what's not hanging between the legs. Self defense is not only a right, it's an obligation for an officer who's charged with maintaining order.

Like I said just because somebody passes an exit exam doesn't mean they are officer material.
It takes a certain kinda mentality .....
There are far more 'good cops' than there are bad......but when the bad strike, lordy everybody pays if they aren't reprimanded and cut loose quick.....
Like I said initially: The ideal situation would be for him to and leave to another job a wiser man.

I would rather this officer learn from this mistake, how could he have handled it different and becomes a better officer in another town rather than a wash-out wasting his time and the city he works for........ balance he needs perspective and balance, he lost control.
