A Seattle Police Officer Is Caught On Tape Hitting a 17-year An African American Teenager Girl

  There are several points here. The first is verbal non compliance. The second is physical non compliance. When the girl started to walk away, what options does the officer have? Should he continue telling her to stop? Should he physically stop her? The officer chose the latter. That's correct procedure. Now, as he was physically constraining the non compliant person, another person comes up and physically and verbally interferes. At this point, he has two people resisting arrest and escalating the situaion.

  For all of you Monday morning quarter backs out there, why don't you list the options availiable to the officer at this point. I'd love to hear them.

  Bull crap. A threat is a threat, regardless of what's not hanging between the legs. Self defense is not only a right, it's an obligation for an officer who's charged with maintaining order.

  he could have put her on the ground...... he could have swung her fast against the car........

  Lots of other choices ....... he could have opened handed slapped her..... BUT HE DIDN'T and that is SCARY.

  What if another non-officer male used your excuse because his wife 'got in his face, pushed him and was verbally abusive'....... he was using self defense too.........right?

  I've read where it was a school that asked the police to stop the jaywalking before someone gets hurt. People were probably walking in front of traffic like they owned the road with no respect for anybody. The officer was actually "talking" to a guy about jaywalking when 4 women did the same thing right in front of him. The guy evidently didn't resist his citation or warning. At least 2 of the girls started resisting aggressively. The officer did call for back up.

  As Sgt. Whitcomb states, "punching is a trained tactic".

  get her name from the friend that didn't leave and have her cited!

  Did you SEE what a fat ass that broad was? She was coming at him. If she'd have been six inches further, she would have fallen on him and he wouldn't have gotten up for days. He does not appear to be someone who lost his temper. He appears to be someone who was getting the situation under control.

  It's an impossible task the public holds cops to. On one hand, they look bad if they use physical force against women. On the other hand, they look just as bad if they do not control out of control irate people and allow them to injure themselves or others.

  would you view it differently?

  If it had been two men, we would be discussing the death of a 17 year old, and asking whether the officer really needed to shoot.

  John Doe, that made me lol. She did appear to be taller and bigger than the officer.

  In the ER, I've seen many a rough young woman come in after fighting. I think that alot of people don't realize that these young women nowadays are not ladies by any stretch of the imagination. If you've seen them fight, it's not hair pulling and face scratching anymore- they fight like men. My view is you want to carry yourself like a man, fight like a man, you'd better learn to take a punch like a man. Period.
