    Yes

If you have a look at the new Disfellowshipping form on the web, it is clear there - it asks did the accused attend? was he asked to attend?

If thats not good enough then there is another plan of attack - they can announce that "By his/her actions he/she has disassociated him/her self"

Over in 20 seconds and out for a year - thats the rules

    G'day all,

Reading through the posts on this thread, it seems to me that we may be talking at cross-purposes here.

To the original question: Can you be a DF without a JC? the answer is clearly No. The JC would need to complete the S77 form to make the DF action valid.

However, the action of DF may proceed AND BE ANNNOUNCED WITHOUT YOU KNOWING ABOUT IT. This is not common but it happened to a dear friend of mine. To this day he has never been told he has been DF. He was simply no longer attending the meetings and heard of the DF announcement from a third party. So if you are summoned to a JC and you refuse, the "case" will proceed to a conclusion without you.

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

Ah, you are 100% correct ozzie. There always has to be a JC but meeting with the accused is not needed.

I was dfd in absentia,in January 2000,You don't have to meet with the J.C. The elders in my hall sent me a letter via my exhusband, (my husband at the time) it was never delivered to me directly. No elder came to see me and if they did I would refuse to see them as they are gutless, especially in my case as they knew why I left, I had asked for their help several times, I must have been invisible to them or something, they never acknowledged my request for a few minutes of their precious time. So i did the inevitable I sinned on purpose to get out and then I divorced my ex after 28yr of rotten marriage to a fanatic and hypocrite and the thing that peeves me more than anything else is the elders knew what my ex was like, but they never did anything to him. Oh well lives a bitch. But I am FREE!!!!!!

    bj-

That sounds like a fascinating story. Have you shared it in a previous thread or published it online? I'd like to read about it.

    Hello Britboy

    I can tell you this:
1 I was inactive for about 2 yrs and had moved from Florida to Texas.
2 I joined the US Air Force
3 Shortly after (within a few months) I was told by a friend of mine
    that I had been disfellowshipped.
4 I called the congregation and they confirmed.

No JC, No letter, and I had always thought that if they knew of my actions, it would at least merit a statement of disassociation.

I really don't care anymore, but it did happen to me. Would it really surprise anyone if they broke their own rules "for the benefit of the congregation" anyway?

Actually, I stand correct. To be DF'd there has to be a JC, but not if you are DA'd.
If you join a church, the YMCA, army, etc...there is no need for the elders to form a JC. You DA yourself.
I know this for a fact because I was da'd for joining the YMCA. At the appeal hearing I was told that a JC wasn't even needed because of my actions and I remembered at the time that this was true but that my local elders were so stupid that they didn't realize this.

The answer is yes. My cousin was df'd, and never went before a committee. They can attempt to contact you, but it they are unable to do it, in a reasonable amount of time, they can do it, and they do.

as your question stands, no, you can't be df'd without a
    judicial commitee.

    The reality is:
    1) if you join the military, you are da'd automatically.
the meeting of a judicial commitee is just a formality
to confirm that you joined - or attempted to join a branch
of the armed forces. Whether you attend the meeting or not
is irrelevant. If you 'wash out' of induction and get discharged,
you STILL will be da'd automatically.

    2) if they have witnesses to some act like smoking or fornication,
they're supposed to at least send you a letter to attend
a judicial hearing. If the letter goes to the wrong address,
or gets lost, tough luck. So, you can be df'd without knowing
    about it.

The reality is that they can df anybody for just about anything
and the Society will almost always back up the local elders
no matter how corrupt or lying they may be - as long as they pretend
to go thru the motions of fairness.

In some cases, df'ing may even be useful in covering up
crime or sexual abuse - you just disfellowship the molested
victim to shut them up. (I know!)
