That's so awesome; congratulations! I'm a big fan of historic preservation...there's an 1861 house in NY that I'm dying to buy and restore. Fingers crossed that it happens this year. You should do a restoration blog - I looooove reading those and seeing the progress.

Oz, congrats! Here in SW Ohio, a lot of people who buy land with old schools/churches on them use the structures as barns for their livestock. It's very aesthetically pleasing, to say the least.

So happy for you! We're saving up for a piece of land ourselves. I just accidentally happened upon my dream property, 15 acres, but it costs $125K and we don't have that much saved yet. We're "no debt" types and it breaks my heart to have to pass up the opportunity to buy this property but we just can't afford it. I envy you being able to find your dream!

Best of luck and have FUN!

That's brilliant and congratulations to you. Nothing else did it for me like actually completing the deal on property. Well done you - enjoy !!

Thankyou all for the good wishes!

Its an hour out of Adelaide going east. We didnt actually plan this either.

We had started saving for a house maybe 3 years from now as i am not getting any younger and time was not on my side in regards to paying a house off by the time i retire. But after we decided we would not do the whole suburban nightmare home ownership thing because of unrealistic and unaffordable prices so we looked to land.

A challenging road lies ahead i am sure! But it will sure beat the hell out of joining those scared of bank forclosure.

    cheers all
