And Mythbuster, you are trying to bust a myth. When anyone says the WT says this, or the GB says this, sola scriptura is not the point in discussion. So why make out that it is? I merely suggested that the GB and any JW uses the principle of SS in understanding the scriptures. Nothing wrong with that. Anyway, this has been fun, my day draws to a close. Cheers

Uhm...because that's the topic of this thread and I see you quoting WT Lit and not the bible.

And, BTW, sola scriptura doesn't mean " bible understood alone by individuals " but "scripture interprets the scripture".

No. It means Scripture alone is the rule of Christian faith.

Or when Jesus states in John that we will not need a teacher for the HS will teach us.

Which creates a litany of obvious problems that have been exploited by the organizations like the WTS ever since Jesus went away, unfortunately.

    dieselman,

I would love to go back to the Kingdom Hall so I could give my mother a hug and have her receive it. If you can provide just one scripture that explains how a person can get their sins forgiven without Jesus as their Mediator, I will do it.

Don't you want to share your faith with me? Or, do you not have any to share?

Well, yes I can argue that it has been abused by organizations, yes.

Which is strange because the very wording shows that one is NOT bound by ANY organization and that the "burden" of undertanding falls on US.

Not so strange. The process goes

"OK, the bible says the Holy Spirit will be my guide"

"OK, I've asked for the Holy Spirit, but I don't feel it."

"All these other people say that they feel it, maybe I should see what they are all about."

Then the group-think hive-mind deception takes over. If you put people in a room together, and one of them claims he sees something in the woods, eventually they'll all claim to see the same thing, even if it isn't there, just so they don't seem odd. Even if the new convert doesn't feel "the Holy Spirit", he feels something, so he'll claim that he does because everyone else is doing it. Really he's just happy to be a part of something and feel that acceptance.

    Successfully exploited.

    Superpunk,

Yeah, I hear you and unfortunatly you are correct.

That is what tends to happen more often than not, the easy way out I guess.

"What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job"

Just because the Ethiopian couldn't understand what Isaiah was saying doesn't mean that everyone can't understand it unless someone explains it to them. The holy spirit is available to anyone who is in Christ and has received his anointing.

1 John 2:26,27 "I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him."
