Contradictions of the LORD's final words

The Roman Catholics quest to burn to death at the stake anyone who tried to translate the Bible into languages other than Latin, was a shrewd move.

Just look at the mess that has been created by making the Word of God available for public reading. When one considers how many years the Roman Catholic church spent compiling and altering an the Bible to suit their beliefs, they screwed up pretty badly. They even destroyed the original manuscripts to cover their backs.

The only way out is for modern Christians to declare that it is no longer the Word of God. This they do in great numbers. It is now admitted to be collection of myths, fables, and uninspired opinion. Such a declaration would have also resulted death by fire at the hands of the Vatican.

Why does anyone take this discredited collection of biblical seriously? How can anyone know what Jesus said before he died or even if he ever existed?

PS: Yah - and i can respect that view (ofcourse!). Personally i dont think in any way it is impossible he said all 3 things, and the reason no 2 of the "last words" are mentioned in the same gospel is harmless; perhaps its due to construction (the authors or a later editor wanted it that way), etc.

Im just curious if you think this in no way can be due to an actual mistake, ie. at least two of the authors thought jesus last (actual) words was two different things when they wrote the gospels.

Well, I am sure that itis possible that someone may have added them to make it look more complete in their view or perhaps in an editing process someone said that they heard an apostle say that Jesus spoke such and such and they added it.

Sure, everything is possible, but at the sametime, we need to remember that this wasn't a game of borken telephone, when they got togther and a person spoke about what happened, there were many people there and if someone emblemisshed or added or even took away, I am sure soemone would have said, " Yo Phil, you forgot so and so" or said, " Yo Tommy boy, last wek you said it was...".

Again, we don't know for sure and our own current history, real time, shows how easy it is to mix things up or how easy it is to focus on what we wanna hear and not on what else is being said.

That isn't necessary. With the internet, a little research is all that's needed. Historically, 99% of NT manuscripts are from non-catholic sources. This despite the burning of tens of millions of believers and their bibles, songbooks and devotionals.

Judge: What was the defendant wearing when he committed the crime?

    Eyewitness #1: A blue shirt

    Eyewitness #2: A red shirt

    Eyewitness #3: A purple thong

Judge: I see. Well, I would actually be MORE suspect of your testimony if you all actually agreed on this. I'm going to convict him.

Upon further investigation from the prosecution, it was found that the defendant's shirt was Blue in the front, red in the back and that when he bent over to tie his shoe, he was wearing a purple thong.Cause he's freakly like that !

I think Jeff answered his own question long before he started the thread, see the thread title.

"Contradictions of the LORD's final words"

Anyhow, I am sure I will be corrected for any presumption.

    Blessings,

    Stephen
