Are the Watchtower numbers right for membership?

Back in the day, there were very very few JW's that would dare to skip an assembly or convention.
Nowadays, there may be a boatload of 15-minutes-a-month older publishers and barely active ones that don't see the need to give up 3 straight days at a convention.

I think their initial numbers are bloated a bit, but there are also many who won't go to the convention. Further, their count for the conventions is probably the peak on the weekend and that means even more are missing on Friday.

Remember too that many witnesses go to more than one assembly. One to work and one to listen to the crap (talks) So they are actually being counted twice. As has been said you really can't take their figures at face value.

You know, this got me thinking. Right now, how does the WTS count its members? Do they count the inactive? Or do they only count active (have not missed a month in reporting time for service)? Do they count someone that is irregular (missed a month reporting FS time but not inactive yet)?

Another thing about counting at the conventions/assemblies. I would like to see the actual number of ones there that are not baptized, not a publisher, and over 18. I would like to see a ratio of that vs baptized/publishers in attendance. Let's add to that and I would like to see the numbers of how many baptized are over the age of 18 and then another number of those under the age of 18. You might as well break it down to countries while we're at it.

I think demographics like that would tell a lot.

Soldier77, they give the impression that they count the "field service slips" for totals of the month-to-month "publishers" and use the highest month as the "Peak publishers." Inactive ones would be counted into the average and anyone turning in missing reports in a different month could be counted twice in the same month for their "peak."

As far as logistics for the conventions/assemblies, what you ask for is too much. Could you see them stopping everyone at the gate and verifying their status and age? (Okay, it's one of the highest high-control groups, they could do it, but it would seem like invasion of privacy to any who are not JW's.)

OTWO, I always wondered how they counted the months where someone turned in 2 or more reports in for late turn ins. Interesting.

Yeah, I ask for too much, it would be awkward to do, but if you could pull it off, get real, actual numbers... eh... I guess I like looking at stats too much. lol. To me they tell a lot, they tell the untold story.

Besides, just fudging the numbers to make everybody look like a solid JW is better for propaganda.

13,500 attended conventions in the city but the WTS claims 23,000 in the area.

The 23,000 number obviously includes all cards in the boxes in all the halls in the region. That of course bloats the numbers way up because every hall has lots of cards of people who haven't been in service or in a hall in who-knows-how-long.

So the 13,500 number is a closer representation of actual, practicing dubs in the area. Actually even that's a bloated number...because if you think about it, a good number of the ones in attendance are fringe members as well. I bet 3,000 of them are irregular to inactive which brings the actual number of JWs in the area down to about 10,000

Jehovah better bring that chariot in for service. Seems to be losing speed...

They're counting all those who are invisibly present.
