  Isn't it wonderful that you are able to see that the "society" knows absolutely NOTHING about what is good for kids?

  I remember trying to be balanced with my girls but getting evil and "I'm embarassed FOR YOU" stares from well-meaning friends.

  There was this one family who would make their kids stand in the middle of the isle if they happened to doze off during the meeting -- even the four year old!

  When the daughter grew up and had twins of her own, she was obsessed with making sure her kids were the perfect example of "theocratic children." She tore up the book of bible stories, laminated a few pages and would make sure her 6 month old twins could use the pages instead of toys while at the meeting and out in service.

  This lady would brag about her "parenting" skills. She was so proud of herself for her ingenious idea.

  And, of course, we all know how "stimulating" those pages could be, don't we! Just what 6 month old twins need to get them to use(not) their brains. Of course, we know that's the whole idea.

  Wow, so glad my folks never bought into that aspect of being a witness! I can literally only remember being spanked once. I do however recall seeing many other children being taken out and having the tar being spanked out of em at the kingdom hall tho. very sad
  Some of the parents would actually take the children outside to do it, but we could still hear the cries inside. ugh. truly awful.

  I too remember being excessively harsh with my oldest daughter. I am ashamed to say that I even began spanking her at 6 months. I would not allow her to play with anything not even have a book until she was old enough to read, because then it would be a play thing ( this is how it was explained to me). I even pioneered when she was two, dragging her all over town with me. Sick. Sick. Sick. I am feel terrible about it now but the pressure put on parents was extreme. I thought I was doing the right thing and articles such as this only give more ammo to the rigid and unloving ones who then wave it in your face and pressure you to conform to this abuse. After I became pregnant with my 2nd child I became more self confident and decided that I would not punish my children or treat them harshly for anyones approval. Happily I left soon after that so my now 4 year old has known none of that harshness and is every bit as well mannered and loving as her 9 year old sister. After leave the org I got my associates degree in Child Development this convinced me that what I had done was abusive as it is developmentally impossible and actually harmful to force children to sit still for hours on end (remember the assemblies:cringe). Jehovah God is our creator and well aware of the developmental stages of human beings while discipline is neccesary for us at all stages harsh punishment and unrealistic expectations are not what our loving father expects from us. I will never again bow to pressure from anyone (friend, foe or family) to dictate how or why I discipline my children.

  Pureheart, you hit a nerve with me. I, too, use to spank my oldest son for not sitting still at the meetings, assemblies, etc. I only spanked him so as to not look bad to the rest of the congregation.

  What sadists we were for forcing a 2-year-old with abundant energy to sit still for 2 hours, not to mention all day at the assemblies. We should have been committed to the luney-bin.

  This article REALLY pisses me off. Makes sense that they're saying it, though. Keep the masses thinking they are fighting for God, and all of the abuse stuff that's going to come out into the news will seem 'just another tired apostate argument' to them.
