I truly don't understand you people. You act as if humans are a complete scourge on the Earth and that you actively wish that the human race would become extinct, immediately if possible.

I'll never understand this hatred for humanity by humans. I guess for most of you, life isn't worth living.

I guess you and I read different posts StAnn because I didn't get that from the opinions here.

I do think people should be concerned with population growth in some parts of the world - if you live among 1/2 billion people, a lush forest, agriculture and 4 clean rivers and all is good - then you keep procreating without concern, until that number is 1 billion people, the forest has been all chopped down for wood, agricultural land has been paved over for housing and 3 of the 4 clean rivers is so polluted, then all you are doing is adding to the misery of your own fellowmen - disease, starvation - babies dying - that's not loving your children.

Humans have the ability to reason, to comprehend, to invent - to plan - I think that's all some people are saying. I don't think its a hatred for humanity, but a love for it. sammieswife

Our children deserve answers to the meaning of life...

If I may be so bold, I'd like to ask, says who, dear Nancy (and peace to you!)? Who says any of us DESERVE answers? Because we're born into this world? Where is it written, where does it say, who told you/us that your birth automatically grants you a right to know stuff? Sure, we'd all LIKE some answers, but deserving them, heck, sometimes even getting them... is another thing altogether...

I don't doubt that you've tried, as have many here. Question isn't how hard you've tried; question is who have you asked? If you think about that long and hard enough, you can't help but know the answer to why you don't know: those you've asked don't know. But that isn't the fault of those of us who've had children. That you don't know is on you... and/or your parents...

Do you think the planet is going to become peaceful & lovely & environmentally well anytime soon NO!

I have to say that I think that's relative: to where you live on it... and what you know about it. I mean, there are some places that are still pretty paradiasical, even physically speaking... if not more, for those who live there and are out of touch with the... well, I guess I can't blame it all on the "western" world, can I?

In addition, for some, like me, "paradise" is wherever you... and your children... are. Wherever you CHOOSE to make it. Because paradise was never a purely physical place, anyway. It's a spiritual place UPON a physical place. A combination of the two. So that, currently, it's really what YOU make it. And for some of us, children are merely the gentle palm trees (although, for others, they may be some kind of thorny rose: sweet-smelling but prickly. If one's are "cacti" however, one might consider the "desert" such children may have been born/planted in...)

so just because I would like someone like me to play with I should subject them to this?

I don't know about anyone else, but I would say ask my children. Which I have done. Of course, they looked at me like I had lost my ever lovin' mind and said, "What do you mean? Of COURSE, we're glad we're alive! What are you talkin' about and what's wrong with you, Mom? Life... is GOOD."

I don't know who is pulling the strings to this world and I don't see that it ever was meant to be anything other than a death planet.

And there you go: it is YOUR sight that is blinding you. Perhaps, though, you can "see" your way to understand the analogy that "one man's trash is another man's treasure." Meaning, where one man may only see death and despair, another man may see life and hope. Like someone so beautifully stated above. Or how about "Beauty is in the eye... of the beholder?" There are others, if these don't do it for you...

An interesting thought. Even more so if you consider that if everyone just stopped having kids there wouldn't be any POINT in even CARING about the environmental future. Because, I mean, who would be here to KNOW about it, let alone enjoy it?

Seriously, dear Nancy... outlooks like yours make me feel very fatigued physically sometimes, because it takes SO much effort... so much good ENERGY... which is immediately wasted... to "go" where they try to take one. For me, just considering where such folks go... in their own hearts and minds... is a workout. I am literally exhausted after just 5-10 seconds of it. So, I must move on.

But... I do wish YOU peace... hope... and happier times in YOUR life.

I don't really understand the reasoning to not have children because of the state of the world. I think the question really comes down to you. Would YOU rather that your parents had not given you a chance at life? On a side not, if I believed in an eternal place of hellfire, then I would say no, don't take that risk and have children.

But I don't believe in that. I believe life is a gift and so are children. People/children are needed in this world - along with the pain and joy that come with them.

Let the animals have it their life is all about killing & eating but overall the environment will function well with only them until some supervolcano erupts or asteroid hits

Hey, look, while you're out there pondering, perhaps you might ponder the very simple joy some might have (a child, even, but not you, of course) if they were experiencing what you'll be experiencing in a few minutes (i.e., nice beach... cool drink). Small joys, true, but still...

I had kids for selfish reasons...because I wanted them. I wanted to be a mom... I have ever since I can remember. I played with my dolls (even nursed them lol), and just KNEW I wanted to be a mother. I actually went AGAINST the WBTS admonition to not have kids "in this system" because in my mind, if I died before the Big A, I would be resurrected but couldn't marry...therefore eliminating my ability to have children, even perfect ones...I knew in the deepest part of my heart that I wanted to be someone's mother. And now I've become that 3 times over (even though my ex has taken them from me for the time being). They are still the first thing in my mind when I wake up, always in my mind during the day, and last thing I think about when I go to sleep...and I see them in my dreams constantly. They are my heart and soul...my reason for living (I know it sounds cliche). The best way to describe it is through a quote I once read: "The decision to have a child is to accept the fact that your heart will forever walk around outside your body". And it's the absolute truth.

You mean we're not? Does any other animal ruin its environment like we do? Does any other creature oppress its own kind the way we do? Not that I can see. For personal reasons I wouldn't opt for extinction, but the earth and other animals would likely benefit from a higher human mortality rate and elimination of technology.
