Looks like McDonald's is fixing to get an outpouring of hatemail. Good job Shelby. Now the price of hamburgers will go up.

SixofNine - I'm not sure what you're seeing. I think she made it all about him. I'm curious also, how you get that he was justifiably banned? The post says nothing about why he was banned.

What was more important to the "buyer", feeding the hungry or making sure everyone knew she was feeding the hungry?

Did she consider if her actions might embarrass the guy? Do the down and out feel shame when their status/situation is in the spotlight?

This is what I see, Twitch -

She fed the hungry and made sure everyone knew that the people refusing him to serve a hungry man food were WRONG. Especially when that food was being paid for.

Maybe she didn't consider whether or not her actions might embarrass the guy. Maybe she thought she was showing him that he had nothing to be ashamed for. That he had rights the same as everyone else.

I don't understand how you're seeing this woman in a bad light? She did something kind and nice - and yes, something in your face to the people refusing to serve a man food that is being paid for. I really don't understand how you see something bad out of something good. The post wasn't even about this - it was about the fact that many have more unfortunate circumstances than we do - and we should keep that in mind when we are feeling bad about our personal lot.

Okay, WAIT just a minute, folks (and may you all have peace!). There appears to be a HUGE misunderstanding here... and I don't wonder, given the HEART... or I should say LACK of heart of some here! There is no SHE in the account at ALL! The person who emailed me... is a MAN. A man... who helped another man. I only told of it because I was happy for BOTH... and wanted to (1) encourage some here with a refreshing story that WASN'T about me... as well as give the man who HELPED (who is a poster here) proper kudos!

What is WRONG with you people that you can even find fault in a GOOD deed???????????????????

Uh-uh,. No. It ain't ME whose crazy.; it's some of you, truly. Crazy AND mean! Please... GET OFF THE BOARD AND GET A BETTER LIFE... one where you can show love to ANYONE... even homeless lpeople... drunks... hell, people who don't believe what and/or as YOU do. LIVE... just a LITTLE.

    Please.

A slave of Christ who says that if THIS is the "result" of losing one's faith/belief in God and Christ then I want absolutely NO part of it... none whatsoever,

SA, who has NO wonder as to the "hate" manifested by this world. Good God. Sheesh...

Perhaps McDonalds had a reason not to serve him, perhaps the reason was justifiable and not about him not having money. It doesn't say. It also doesn't say that the reason was because they felt it was wrong to feed the hungry. I've done work with Ronald McDonald House so I wouldn't say this corp is entirely about the bottom line.

Maybe she didn't consider whether or not her actions might embarrass the guy. Maybe she thought she was showing him that he had nothing to be ashamed for. That he had rights the same as everyone else.

The buyer didn't consider it IMO. Maybe they could've found a different solution that didn't involve making a scene which he didn't ask for and likely didn't want. Maybe McDonalds, like most private enterprise, is not obligated to offer service to everyone.

I never said it's wrong to do a good deed, which the buyer did and which I admire for the most part. SixofNine's point which you inquired about and which I understand, is that if one truly wishes to be altruistic, one doesn't need and shouldn't want any personal ego lift or have a point to make by the action ie be seen as a champion. This is not a bad thing per se but is likely true. The food could just as easily been brought out to him thus serving the same purpose but that wouldn't have made as good a story now would it?

I don't feel better about my lot because others have it worse off. Quite contrary, I feel for them and it makes me kinda sad that I should be more fortunate than many by mere chance or situation. I'm not thankful for the disparity in the world.

And if you believe me to be cruel in my reasoning, I can understand that. But you don't know the kind things I've done in my life, most of which are gestures with little or no point needing to be made to anyone other than that person and myself. But that's just me.

    Shelby,

If any of that was directed at me, I'm sorry you feel that way. I've the opinion that you're a decent person who cares for people and though I have differing opinions and beliefs, I've as much right to voice them as you do and won't be leaving the board anytime soon.

I leave you to yours as I hope you'll leave me to mine.

    Cheers

Were you ever a baptised Jehovahs Witness (tm) Shelby? I see you've been here for over 9 years. Genuine question with no strings attatched.

Actually, rereading the post, the point I believe (other than showing a good deed done) was that despite the homeless man's lot, he was still fed. Someone found kindness to feed him.

Twitch - I don't know you or what you do in your personal life, and I'm not passing judgment on you. I don't have the right or the know-how. By your post, I suspect you help those less fortunate, without reporting it. But what I am saying is that I don't understand how anyone can attack a good deed, simply because the good deed wasn't done in the way they think is right.

Why not just take the story as it is? Smile because it was a good deed. Feel good because a kindness was done. Instead of attacking that kindness and harshly judging the person who did it?

This is what I don't understand.
