"But his younger brother, Aaron Lee, did write a brief letter to Moskowitz.

He said James Lee was loved by his family, was nonviolent and did not smoke, drink or do drugs. Aaron Lee said his brother had been “a devoted Jehovah Witness for a decade.”"

I'm surprised no one is talking about his link to Al Gore.

But, I'm sure some will find a way to blame it on Bush.

Why the question mark in the subject line? According to his brother, the guy was a jw.

    LOL Deputy Dog!

There is no question this guy was a bit tightly wound, so whatever set him off was surely deep rooted. I have no idea if his JW connection had anything to do with this, but it is certainly interesting given the debate over the high incidence of various types of mental illness among JW's.

Peacedog...I posted this after seeing it on Freemind's website. I am always cautious about believing everything that shows up in the news, though this seems credible.

    Agreed.

For me it's at the point where anytime psycho shit like this goes down, one of my first thoughts is, "I wonder if he has a jw connection?"

    edit:

    Good point.

Whether true or not, it does serve to remind us that the JW religion really does seem to attract some very disturbed people.

Certainly, the JW religion itself did not cause this nut case to snap and cause this incident.

It is also true that, if in fact he was a JW, they did nothing to notice his condition or effectively get him any help.

I am no psychologist, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it might be a duck!

When I was a JW, I never gave much thought to it having a connection to mental illness. Now that I have the luxury of looking back without the rose colored glasses, I can see how a number of my friends and associates had signs of "issues" such as depression, OCD, etc.

I do feel for the people affected by this disturbed individual's actions...the trauma caused to his hostages and the loss to his family...sad stuff.

I think that the religion makes you go crazy. "Somebody's watching me." "Don't think evil thoughts" (evil thoughts can be what they consider porneia). Must I say more?
