I was looking forward to Blondie's comments about this article as well.
The paragraph that really struck me was #9, about how the violence in today's entertainment is training people for the time when they will slaughter their fellowman.

Could it be Witnesses are complaining "we have heard that same reminder for decades" because, well...
because they've, er... kind of heard that same reminder for decades?
The F&DS calling the rank and file cynical? Pot, meet kettle...
Article : "What Jehovah's Day Will Reveal " July 15 2010 page 3
Theme : "2 Pet 3 10... "Jehovah's day will come as a thief and earth and the works in it will be discovered"
Very strong stuff in this article...fire and brimstone. I could imagine this kind of thing being thundered out by an old time firebrand preacher or a cult leader like David Quresh.
Par 4 tells that God will wipe out Satan's world .....Par 6 speaks of those "Infected by the World's Spirit"
Par 9 advises that those "molded by the world and its evil spirit will... even slaughtering one another" in Jehovahs day. It says that "violent entertainments popular today are conditioning the minds of many " for this time
Par 12 repeats the prophecy of a "Cry of Peace and Security " before the end ...then par 15 has the point that miseryloves elders made in her post. They "are questioning Jehovah" if they question the ramblings of the F & D S.!
Par 16 "The evil slave concludes that The Master is delaying. The encouragement is to use our time in The Ministry..(of course !)
Par 18 ends with counsel to "trust in Jehovah"....
OK but was it Jehovah who wrote that the end may come in 1975? or that millions alive in the 1920's would "Never die"...No , it was the WB & T Society nothing more. So why believe them any more ?
"Oops! I am sounding like those "cynical ones in par 15....

BTW Best wishes to Blondie - hope you are feeling better
Oh, there was also the point that "teachers in the congregation" might push the idea that the end is not so soon after all - somewhere toward the end of the article.
The Society is strictly reactionary - they simply don't anticipate problems, much less suggest them in print to be read by 7 million JWs.
Who are these "teachers" that are promoting these ideas? How widespread must the problem be, for them to acknowledge it in print?
Maybe these "teachers" are getting the idea the end is "not so soon" because the WT continues to announce plans that will take years to carry out?
The article was about 'Jehovah's Day' - a good old fashioned 'fire and brimstone' article to push all the buttons - fear, dependence, a little guilt thrown in.
Yeah I noticed that paragraph too, and the one after it which added more topping about the 'evil slave's' ridicule "Where is this promised presence ...." etc. I thought, 'But the "promised presence" is a past event, yes? So how does this apply now?' They seemed to be mixing Scriptures about the future 'Jehovah's Day' aka 'the great tribulation' with the 1914 'presence.'
Again, the paragraph makes the questioner (complainer) the problem rather than acknowledging that the problem is with the leaders who have a long history of giving false alarms, keeping the flock in a perpetual state of high alert and activity. 100 years of this and, sure, many of the peeps are going to develop a casual attitude and cynicism or else they're just too damn tired - especially if they've been in the Org a while - it's only natural. But it's not the flock's fault. It's not the fault of "Jehovah and his Son." We know where the fault really lies.
That's funny...
The scriptures quoted in the paragraph, all stating some variation of "the end is coming soon", were all written at least 1900 years ago.
Evidently the word "soon", to God, can mean thousands of years.
But when the WT makes statements about the end being "in the near future", "imminent", "right around the corner", we're supposed to think it must come right now? Uh huh.
Yes sir82, the irony of that struck me too!
Very strong stuff in this article...fire and brimstone
Bluesbrother - you beat me to it!
The "Holy Trinity" of the WT$: "Jehovah", Jesus, and the "Faithful and Discreet Slave"™.....
Did anyone also notice the WT$ didn't provide a single scripture to support their claim that questioning the "Faithful Slave class" is the equivalent of questioning "Jehovah and his Son" ?
Sadly, though, some have become casual or even cynical about reminders concerning the need to stay awake. ‘We have heard that same reminder for decades,’ they may say. However, those individuals should keep in mind that by making such remarks, they are actually questioning Jehovah and his Son, not just the faithful slave class.
On what basis do they make such a bold (brazen?) statement? The parable of the faithful servant comprises a couple verses in two gospels and nothing there suggests that questioning said servant would in fact be questioning GOD.
In fact, a "servant" putting himself above his fellow servants and making the CLAIM TO SPEAK FOR GOD, telling his fellow servants that "IF YOU QUESTION ME, YOU ARE QUESTIONING GOD", sounds a lot more like the EVIL SLAVE in the parable than the good and faithful servant.
Does anyone have a link to the issue? I like to print those things out so I can discuss with my family. It's so funny to me, all the talk from the Society about staying away from "apostate" literature and what actually got me out of the org was reading an article in the kool-aid edition of the WT.
