Good thread. The Cramps had a song called The Most Exalted Potentate of Love. I couldn't find a studio version of it, and the live versions sucked on You-Tube. At any rate, Queens of the Stone Age covered it. Love this tune.
Another cover I like is Rage Against the Machine's version of The Ghost of Tom Joad originally by Springsteen. Here's Bruce's orginal...

One last one and then I've gotta crash.....this might be somewhat off topic as its a hip hop song that sampled a hippie song. The way the sample was flipped is serious business though.
The band was called Potter St. Cloud with the song Open Letter........
Here's the Clipse song that samples Open Letter, called Freedom..........I had this on constant replay last year.

I was thinking the same!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that song, NEVER knew. Sorry, the Eric Carmen "All By Myself" is so far superior. He's feelin' it. LOL, Imma get slammed about this one, but I think it's better.....................it's dirtier. Not that the original isn't awesome!
