Last week i did some work for the army. While there i was impressed by how nice all the guys were. How respectfull, helpfull and decent they all were. They were simply a joy to work with! Due to the occasion they were also wearing their medals. Showing that they had served in Kosovo, the former yogulasavia, afganistan and iraq.

What i can't get my head around is that these people have proberly killed or injured others during their service... yet they are such nice people!

    can anyone help?

They are killing enemy soldiers as part of their job, it isn't the same as being a murderer

Having served in Afghanistan, Kosovo etc they no doubt have seen and done things they’d rather forget. War isn’t pretty, and American soldiers are not exempt from committing war crimes. It’s a part of being at war.

Many dictators and war criminals are charming people. They learn to departmentalise their actions against their enemies away from other aspects of life. Men who have fought in the army learn to do the same thing, I would say.

This scripture really does reflect a lot how many Veterns and military persons believe . I highly suggest you visit any Military memorial service and you will understand a little more clearly . I went to our towns 9/11 tribute and appreciation service last week . There was not a dry eye in the crowd after the speeches . There were speeches from a Veteran from every conflict in modern history there, plus first responders on 9/11.

The men that saw active combat and witnessed their own men being killed are NOT proud and happy that they had to kill someone .....they only realize what they did was a part of war .

My Father is a 20 yr Marine Corp Retired Veteran . He was in China , Korea and Vietnam . He never gloated or took lightly the lives he took .I am sure it is a heavy burden to carry for any Vet , but what keeps it managable is the thought what they did was needed to preserve OUR freedom here at home .

Gee, doesn't "Jehovah" kill people too just cos they don't belong to his organization?

The Bible says shall not 'murder'...there is a difference in murder and killing to protect.

My dad was also a Marine...veteran of WWII and Korea.

He fought in the South Pacific. When I was young he used to have nightmares that he was having hand to hand combat in a foxhole. The Japanese were brutal as they swept through China and other places in their bid to take over lands. Remember that they bombed Peart Harbor and that is why the US fought them.

Others of the Armed Forces liberated France and other countries from Hitler, who wanted to establish himself as dictator (sorry, Ceasar) over the "Holy Roman Empire." He was willing to stop at nothing. I am sure the six million Jews and others in the concentration camps did not view the American soldiers as murderers, rather as those willing to stand up for justice and stop this madman.

Today there are other enemies who wish to enslave Americans to their ideologies or just kill us because we defend liberty.

For over thirty years, I did not tell my dad that I was proud of his efforts to keep America the land of the free....now I wish I could but he died before I left the WTS.....
