I just tell others that we call our church a kingdom hall.

I must not be over them yet. It bugs me to no end that their picture is up at the museum.

church (chûrch)
n. 1. A building for public, especially Christian worship. 2. often Church a. The company of all Christians regarded as a spiritual body. b. A specified Christian denomination: the Presbyterian Church. c. A congregation What is it about the word 'church' that is unacceptable to the WTS? It is a non denominational term and used to describe a gathering of Christian people for worship, which is what JWs are supposed to be, so why do they get so uptight about the public referring to Kingdom Halls as churches as if it is something offensive?

"Now Gary if you could only get your little girl to say mommy goes to bingo hall... "
How about, "Dingo Hall"???

I think the antipathy towards the term "church" must have started with church-hating Rutherford...

Another example of the WTS majoring on minors to make JWs different from everyone else.

KHs are listed under Churches in the phone book but not on the page of churches on Saturday's paper.

Its so petty and trivial to insist that the Kingdom Hall isn't a church. The past handful of years I haven't went out of my way to correct people on something that doesn't need corrected. Tommorrow when people ask me what I did over the weekend, I'll fit in that I went to church on Sunday. Today after the meeting, I went to the grocery store. I saw someone that I hadn't seen since I graduated high school. Being that I was dressed up, she asked if I was coming from church, to which I replied yes I am. Its petty and a waste of breath to make an issue out of KH not being a church.
In a similar vein, I find it petty that JWs substitute church titles for those that have responsibilities within the congregation. JWs don't have deacons, they have ministerial servants. JWs don't have overseers, but rather Elders. JWs don't have a clergy, but rather anointed Christians represented by the Governing Body who serve as mediator between us and Christ/Jehovah. JWs don't have megachurches, but rather assembly halls. JWs don't have Bishops, but rather Circuit Overseers. JWs substitute pulpit for a host of different terms such as, the podium, the stage, the main speaker's mic,etc..
There's others that could be mentioned too, but at the end of the day its all so petty.

Think About It
The WTS sure is quick to identify themselves as a church when it comes to maintaining thier tax exempt status.
