Had my CA last weekend. It was interesting,Here what I got out of it, without giving spoilers, because I know they are not all the same. But it seems to me, that due to the new understandings a lot of friends are letting their guard down.Possibly thinking, "well, If they change in doctrine once, who knows they might change again". It seem the attitude in some are lacking inclusive in the maintance of the Halls, which were addressed in the local needs. Durring the sumarry of the WT, the speakers was very clear about new understanding or correct understanding and I paraphase the the quote from Spanish to English:" The FDS are not inpired by the holy spirit, they are guide by it"... This is an interesting statement for us longtimers, and it was sheer honesty.
A good example was in the WT where it explain how a clear standing was arrived that. And that is why I love this organization so. I have no problem with, the more you study a subject, the more you get to know it and underatd it better. It happens in science, Math, Medicine an biology, why should it not happen with studying the Bible? The Physical laws of the universe are unchanged since creation. Our understanding of them justs gets better, and we are amazed. I see no difference with the scriptures.
What say you?

First of all, they make distinctions without a difference. I'd like a clear explanation of what the difference is between being "guided" by the spirit and being "inspired" by the spirit. IMO, they are one in the same.
It's like how they say, "We are prophets...but only prophets in a sense. And not inspired..." You cannot be an uninspired prophet. The meanings contradict each other.
They are just trying to wiggle out of the problem that they've gotten themselves into. I have no problem with increased understanding either. But when you say that the ONLY way that God communicates today is through the "faithful slave class" (meaning the GB ONLY), then you cannot be wrong in what you teach. Especially when you say things like, "Jehovah caused new light to break forth!"
They are guilty of presumptuousness and blasphemy, and IMO they have alot to be worried about come judgement time.

Science, math and biology do not have such an organization that can control people, that if anyone disagrees with some knowledge so far known as such, that it can "cut off" people and take away their family relationships and good friends and make some organizational shunning. Such sciences are always being researched, and investigated and respected. No one has ownership of such knowledges.

So then they were "guided" by the holy spirit to say/print countless errors. Even Russell said that new light or expanding light = expanded knowledge, cannot and would not go back to previously taught truths. Today's witnesses/gb are apparently guided by holy spirit to do that on a regular basis.

"Spirit directed" is meaningless. Either the holy spirit guides you--in which case you are doing as God directs and there should be no errors, or you are making a guess--in which case people shouldn't be punished for disagreeing with you.

Hey Purps - I've lost track of people's stories here, but please clarify for me... Is this a comment that you received from an active JW, or is this your own personal comment??
Hope all is well with you.

I see no difference with the scriptures.
We have had the entire Bible for hundreds and hundreds of years - having so many study that finite document for so long, there should be no new light coming from it. The only thing you can do is reinterpret it, according to whim, and there you go: New Light. Since these decisions are based on the votes of a small group of men in Brooklyn, all you gotta do is wait for a change in membership or for someone to have a yummy sandwich for New Light to be announced.
The sciences, on the other hand, are not human words simply interpreted. They are discovered, and are not from our own design. Our knowledge of how the universe works is far, far from complete - there is a virtually infinite universe that our technology is only now beginning to reveal.
There's the difference.
As far as the difference between being guided versus inspired by God...well, does this make sense:
2 + 2 does not "equal" five, but it is "the same as" 5
Is there any difference in this simple statement between "equal" and "the same as"? No, of course not. Being "guided" or "inspired" by God should be exactly the same thing, and to pretend there's a distinction places some pretty wierd limitations on God!
If God truly were using this governing body, don't you think he'd have them get it right the first time? Otherwise, it's just like any other religion pretending to authority.

If the Governing Body are not "inpired" why bother listening to anything they say? Anyone can say they are "guided" by the bible or the holy spirit, but by what authority should anyone listen to them?
The only authority the GB has is the authority that the followers grant them. It seems to me that more and more followers are waking up and realizing that these dingbats are talking out of their @$$e$, and always have been.

Yes the more one reads and studies the more one gets an understanding. But jw are told not to form separate study groups but to accept only what the WTS says.

I do find it interesting that the WTS is obviously having problems in the Spanish speaking congos here in the US. This population segement has been the only thing that has kept the numbers from turning negative in the US. If they're starting to slow down, that is not going to be good news for the WTS.
Apathy continues to be a huge problem and they have no idea how to combat it.
