The way you phrased your first post gave the impression that you knew ex-witness.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was looking forward to the popcorn though
Anyway hello and welcome.

I never wrote a letter, but I can certainly understand why someone might want to, it's an entirely personal decision. What I find astounding is that they call you after specific instructions not to. Are you serious about the disassociation?? Do you know what it implies??
After being a JW, it's pretty much pounded into your head what disfellowshiping and disassociation involves. How could anyone not know that they will be shunned by family and friends? And who would do that on a whim? Do they call everyone who sends a letter? It's weird.
who writes a letter???
Well that is a common request by Elders ...... (please review KS91 and BOE LTRs!)
Such a note relieves some measure of legality and allows the Elders to discern the matter more clearly should the person seek reinstatement.
I believe the letter is still put into the Blue envelop.....
sense some BS on this thread,
like the BO have got nothing better to do and personally call everyone that writes to them!
yknot
so...someone would write a letter to ...save the elders some trouble?? make it easier on them??
if you're heading toward the exit, who cares what the elders' legality issues or future considerations are?
lion paw:
your response was silly.
why didnt u just leave without having to 'write a letter' and make a point of making it official? then u get a call and get all the more defensive.
Without an official letter of disassociation...they still have your power of attorney and you are still bowing to them even though you are "hiding out". It takes more backbone and courage to make it publicially known and to stand up to them. To severe the ties a letter is required. It would be good to require acknowledgment of the asservation as well.
My response to his question was an effort to clear up any misconceptions that I want to part of their organization, to erase any doubt as to the possibility of my return. I included my phone number so as to ensure they remove me from any calling list. (Keep in mind, it's been over 10 years since I was last in a KH, I don't know how Big Brother they've gotten, save from what I've read on this board.)
And Cameo is correct, if, from what I have read here and on numerous other sites, they can still "count" you among their numbers unless you official cut all ties with them (i.e. judicial committee or a letter).
The reason for the timing of the letter was because of this website. After reading a lot of posts as a guest here and on jwfacts.net, I realized my name was still associated with JWs, even though I was "inactive". I didn't want my name attached to an organization like this one.
And the whole purpose of the post was to ask those that left from a more current affiliation if it's normal for them to call.
i think they have composed an apostate list-and you have been added to it.
As lionpaw suggested - there are 'options' for leaving. At least most often there are options, not always.
I understand, and respect ex-witness' choice. Some have made that choice, others to just walk away and never look back. I personally felt compelled to break the ties entirely, as did ex-witness. In my case, though it was inevitable, I was backed into a corner by a JC charging me with apostasy, which ended the debate. Letter or disfellowshipped. I chose the letter.
My letter went to the local BOE, he chose the Branch Office [which I find somewhat odd, but what the hell].
