Is there 'independent' thinking going on in this congregation?

Our old hall did that in the past . It was something seperate from the regular KH accounts . It would not be announced from the platform just word of mouth and one brother took the donations . I remember it helped several people out in lean times when an unexpected hardship arose . I also remember a CO trying to put an END to it also . That is why the brothers kept it on the down low ,but of course someone with a personal grudge had to make a stink because it wasn't their idea .

Still even when they 'quit taking these donations' if anyone in our hall needed help those that were more fortunate usually came forward to help out personally giving the person money ,food or help .

One time we had a car accident during the drive to the assembly sessions in St Louis . Our car brakes failed and our car slid under a semi tractor trailer breaking the windshield . Family picked us up at the Hospital and took us on to the Assembly A brother and Sister from our hall slipped us an envelope with $50. in it ....we had not asked for anything and we told them no ,but they insisted it might help a bit with costs of getting our car home . We had some generous souls in our old hall when the Society wasn't trying to suck it out of them .

Yes there are some very caring and loving jws who would give the shirt off their back to help a needy jw and sometimes others. But all the congregations that I knew never helped those in need as a congregation.

As mere 20 year olds my brother and I went to a distant Internal Assembly... we stayed in one of those "private home arrangements "

for those who could less afford motel rooms; when we woke up and went to our car , all four tires were gone !

Bless all those dear souls that each gave us 50 dollars !! It was the kindly ones, no servants !

Unless it is earmarked for something or someone in advance, I wouldn't be surprised if the circuit overseer "takes care" of this fund.

I have heard of local congregations doing this.......it is random and based on personal love.

Yeah, more like based on "popularity" - the people who need it the most are often not the ones who get it unless they have some connection.

and the people who get it the "self-sacrificing" (irresponsible) pioneers are given handouts left and right.

    Just my 2 cents.

I know of a pioneer that had a hand out from the cong to cover his exp. for travel to the pioneer school. He took all his friends to the pub with it. PRICELESS!

They are just following the bible

    Acts 4:34 (New International Version)

34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales

I am sure the elders will stamp it out before it gets out of hand

    Blessings,

    Stephen

Even if it became a feature of most Congo's activity, it falls far short of James' injunction to look after "widows and orphans".

James did not restrict these loving charitable works to just Christians, it was to be expressed to any in need.
