How do Jehovah's Witnesses Explain This Fossil Record?

Ask Darwinists to explain the Cambrian explosion in the fossil records.

Even if evolution WAS false I'll take their side since they are trying to explain the world around us.

Funny you would want an explanation for a phenomenon when all creationists explanation is "God did it, now lets wait for the end of the world."

Ask Darwinists to explain the Cambrian explosion in the fossil records.

Accelerating change once a certain level of organizational complexity is reached.

In other words, with certain new adaptations such as organized multicellularity and sexual reproduction, evolution "speeds up."

There are other possible factors at work as well, such as increased levels of oxygen or a warming up of the Earth's climate. Additionally, soft bodied animals do not leave very good fossils behind. Even now, over the last few thousand years, we do not find recent fossils for common types of worms, whereas we find them for animals that have bones or shells. The Cambrian explosion may be an consequence of that fact. There may have been many types of animals in the pre-Cambrian, but hard biological structures had not yet become common.

Lets face it , religions are universities and colleges of fear and human ignorance that is their basic teaching knowledge.

That pretty much sums it up. Find it ironic that creationists benefit from the advances thanks to science: from transportation, to agriculture, to medicine. But yet when it threatens their ancient beliefs suddenly science and scientists are evil and lying.

What advantage do scientists gain from their studies on evolution? What evil, self-serving purpose does it supply them? Nothing. On the flip side, does your church ask for money? Ah, now there would be a motivation for continuing to blind their followers with misinformation.

Haeckel's theory on embryo gils has been rejected by modern scientists. "No cleanly defined and functional "fish", "reptile" and "mammal" stages of human embryonal development can be discerned."

Actually, current evolutionary biology — drawing on advances in genomic research and embryology — has gotten a lot more sophisticated than old explanations like the one you gave. It does not utilize Haeckel's 19th century theory, and similarities between vertebrate embryos are real, as they involve the exact same genes and DNA switches. Molecular biologists can actually experiment with the DNA of embryoes and uncover the genetic mechanics of evolutionary change.

A recent documentary on the relevance of embryological research and evolution:

I read something interesting the other day on the Cambrian explosion. Basically, evolution selects for traits that confer a survivability to an organism and the species in general (as we all know), but it looks like, from the fossil and DNA record that the ablity to evolve, particularly in a rapidly changing environment, is a survivability that is also selected for. If you think about the Cambrian era when the earth was rapidly changing, that idea certainly makes sense.

Just because evolution rings true and logical to some, does that mean that intelligent design is ridiculous or disproven?

    No.

I can look up at the moon and see it is both practical and beautiful. That's the code. That proves there is a god.

So what about evolution? Could the scientists be creating a false positive based upon what they see? Sure.

But does science contradict the Bible? Don't we see species producing after their own kinds? Don't we see beauty and variety? Sure! Do we see active evolution? Can evolution be created under controlled laboratory conditions even now? No.

The fact that we have morphism in nature, though is what makes evolution believable. A cocoon turns into a butterly transforming from a caterpillar. That makes everything possible doesn't it?

A fertilized single ovum develops into an infant in 9 months. That's evolution isn't it? Sure! Sometime simple becomes something complex over time.

So did God use evolution? Probably some aspects of it, especially after the flood.

What about a few fossiles they've found they think are "links" in the chain rather than some mutation or diseased skeleton? There's nothing we can do about that. But for sure, if evolution did actually occur one would expect a lot more evidence between species, wouldn't we? Where are they? We should have some half humonoids still around. We have apes!

So the way I see it, evolution is a hard sell, whereas if we presume God created everything, we're quite impressed with his brilliance right? I mean, can we create life in a test tube? No.

We cannot see god through the microscope because God is part spiritual and part artistic. Those are areas blind to science. What science observes, though, doesn't contradict the Bible or nature. That is, the orderly universe. The solar system that is both beautiful and practical, designed for time telling as the Bible states. Ancient astronomy texts giving the positions of planets and the moon can be used to date events to a specific year in time. It's amazing. All by accident? Or purpose?

There may be many good arguments to believe in evolution, but science supports intelligent design and does not contradict the Bible.

They say this is close to getting "nailed down" but it is no where close to that!

Evolution is like the "trinity" doctrine. They make it so specific and so vague that you can't really contradict anything. They will be the first to tell you evolution has nothing to do with abiogenesis or how the moon got up there. Yet if there's a God and the Bible is true, those things support the Bible and would tend to disprove evolution. So that topic is not dealing with a full deck in the real world, so it is not surprising they could convince themselves of anything if their eyes are shut to other realities.

Anyway, who cares? Those who experience God and believe the Bible are not in the least bit concerned about who evolutionists self deceive themselves. Plus how many "curves" has God himself thrown at the scientists to make sure they stay in spiritual darkness?

Some ask "why would God deceive"? Well the Bible clearly shows God purposely blinds the minds and deceives the wicked and casts them into darkness. So no telling what "exceptions" to the rule God has hidden from them at this point. God provides light to those who love light, and provides darkness to those who love darkness.

" ...an aerospace engineer with the General Electric Company, was involved for 30 years with the research and development of automatic flight control systems (autopilots) for a number of aircraft such as the F-111, Boeing 757 and 767. He was elected to the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi, is an Associate Fellow in the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, authored many published articles and papers on aviation, and holds a number of patents in his field. ..."

His comments would be much more credible if he had a degree in paleontology...

I have an 'avocation' in geology, but I'd never pretend that it was the equivalent of a degree in that science...

Hubby, who is an engineer- a chemical engineer - has stated many times that scientists tend to be liberal (in their politics and world-views) while engineers tend towards conservative attitudes...

(Incidentally, hubby studied physics during his first period at college in his early 20's... He went back to school in his mid-30's for an engineering degree...)

If hubby's observations are applicable to most scientists and engineers, it's not surprising that an engineer would attempt to denounce evolution.

    Oh, Good Grief....

    Not THAT specious reasoning again!!!

As I stated in an earlier thread, an organism will tend to view as "Beautiful", ANY environment that enables it to live - survive and reproduce - with a minimum of difficulty or struggle....

If life is evolving on Venus, for example, such life would view Venus as "Beautiful" - all 900+ Farenheit degrees, Iron 'rain', and metallic "snow" on the tops of the heat-blasted mountains of the planet...

Venusian "life" would view Venus' environment - including its "global warming" effect - as "Beautiful", along with all its ramifications, because LIFE THAT EVOLVED IN THAT ENVIRONMENT, MUST RELY ON THAT ENVIRONMENT TO SURVIVE...!!

So! Since your existence relies on Earth - and its satellite, the Moon, with its effects on the tides, to mention but one - you WILL NATURALLY VIEW THIS ENVIRONMENT that your ancestors EVOLVED into - to be "Beautiful"...!!!

BUT - that certainly DOES NOT PROVE the existence of some Johnny-come-lately Middle-Eastern nomadic males' "god"...!!!

    Sheeeeesh!!
